JT taking a lot of flack from the Chelsea faithful on the radio tonight.

Good enough to be England captain a few days ago, not good enough to play for Chelsea today.

Pretty much sums up the English game.....whichever way you look at it.

Man City have taken the players Chelsea would have wanted, money talks, it bought Chelsea success, but now they are out of the game as Russki has withdrawn the open chequebook.

Surely that was a foul goal kick from Cech immediately before the first goal? He placed the ball in the goal area, about three yards from the touch line, then kicked it forward a couple of yards and while it was still rolling passed it to Mikel who decided to sit down rather than play it to safety. Would have been a shame had the ref blown for it, though.

Nothing in the Laws to state that the ball must be stationary when taking a goal kick. Had an interesting discussion with a referee about this when I witnessed it happen at a recent game.

I'm surprised, I thought a goal kick had to get out of the penalty area. Is it legal for the goalie to dribble the ball out to the edge of the area before walloping it, then?

I saw Keith McPherson get penalised once for playing a goal kick before it had reached the edge of the penalty area.

So a keeper could boot it out of his hands then?

As long as the ball is still inside the 6 yard area is what matters - as does ensuring that the ball leaves the area before being played. My take on that goal kick was that Cech kicked the ball forward to enable him to take a quick goal kick. The ball was still within the 6 yard box when he played it to Mikel.

You're speaking bollocks pal.

Its a `free kick` so must be stationary.

If you could boot it from the hand then everyone would.

A goal kick is not a free kick. I am sure that does not need to be spelt out to you.

It must be kicked from on the ground, but just checked and the law on goal kicks doesn't say it must be stationary, whilst the law on free-kicks says it must.

I'm amazed at this!

So was I when I was first presented with that information. Only free kicks - direct and indirect - and kick offs must be taken with the ball stationary. Just goes to show how little we know or think we know.
