TBM Why would you go to a football ground for the surroundings?!

I go for the football, not the scenery

Football is about 94th on the list of things I go to football for. I like my grounds to:

Be in the centre, or near, town.
To have decent pubs near by
To have a terrace, or at least a tolerance of standing
Proper, pylon floodlights (ideally appearing above terraced houses as you walk to the ground)
Good transport links
Separate, individual stands

If I'd gone to football for just the football, I wouldn't have spend 10 years going to Elm Park. The only reason to go to the Madejski is to watch a football match. It has absolutely nothing else to recommend it.

To be fair, the Mad Stad does have excellent road links and is easy to get to. Sounds to me like your pefect ground is Bentford's.

1871 Royal Not been there myself but reports from Stadium:MK are pretty bad.

Hidious stadium and the roof is far far to high. They're finally putting the top tier seats in this summer to take capacity over the 30k mark. :|

Not last weekend it wasn't! No queue at all to get off at J11, but it then took 45 minutes to reach Green Park.

Ninian Park used to be a depressing place, as was Springfield Park in Wigan.

I would describe Coventry as depressing as both times I've been there, I've contemplated slitting my wrists at half time as a preferable alternative to watching the second half. Half empty, silent, featureless bowl.

I fear Reading may become similar to this were they to be relegated.

Coventry is ok, if you go to the casino under the ground.

For me Palace, shit area, crap seats rubbish view and has a massive Sainsbury's next to it

I used to like Springfield Park, it was so crummy it was actually fun to be there.

Railway sleepers to mark the gradient of the away end "terracing" IIRC, as recently as the early 1990s.

Close. Fulham is my favourite away trip. Bristol City is decent as well.

If I never go to the Ricoh again, it'll be too soon.

Trips to Craven Cottage are the shiznit.

Not least cos I can mince around in my Reading fleece without any bigger boys chasing me.
The only danger from a Fulham fan is getting whacked over the head by a rolled up Independant newspaper.

The area is quality strasse for the all day beano.

Darlintron Arena. 20,000 setter bowl with about a 1,500 average attendance, crap football and a shoddy area.

Walsall (Bescot) is a featureless Lego set. Absolutely cracking chicken balti pies though.

I relised my complete love affair with football had ended when I could no longer stand to go to Stoke - even if Reading were playing there.

Going to Tranmere in the late 80's FA cup. Linden Jones scored for us I think.
What a shithole Prenton Park was then.

Agree.

There is nothing quite as depressing as Saltergate, the wind the rain and the loss.

Chesterfield as a town completely lacks any redeeming features.

Apart from the church with a crooked spire.
