Just crious if you've awarded half assists etc for games earlier in the season? as I imagine they're pretty hard to quantify unless you've been keeping an accurate record....

And what constitutes a half assist?

Interestingly, depending on who you take as right on here, both of Harte and Kebe got 2 assists on Tuesday night.

It's a little known fact that statistics are actually much more accurate and objective if you put them in large print .....

No Wimb, but I think it's worthwhile.

The three I have just done were "blatant" major contributions, Harte's cross for Kebe's "goal" (Church credited) for example.
That was almost a goal (may well have gone in) and Harte's contribution was large.

I think his contribution was significant for the kebe-Alf goal also.

Third one was Elwood's brilliant crossfield ball which Alf won
and then made Hunt's winner at Ipswich

By a half-assist, I don't simply mean, "the player who made the penultimate pass" but only where
it's something really clear, really obvious.

For example, last season when Kebe sprinted the length of the field in about ten seconds, beating a few men
then crossing. The goal scorer was not the first touch but there could be no questioning what a massive part
Kebe took in the goal.

Happy to add any such obvious" half-assists, if others can remind me, but I don't
half the time to trawl through old game reports (or my leaking memory)

I'm sure there are some.

I LIKE large print

Is it your age?

Oh and I'm sure ALF has more than two assists for us? He got a couple in his first 4 matches and then set up Noel more recently with a cross.

Kebe "virtually scored" but Church gets the credit for the goal cos he nicked it, so Kebe gets the assist instead.

But IMO, Harte "virtually" had the assist for Kebe's "virtual" goal

So Church gets the goal, Kebe the primary assist and Harte a secondary. Simples.

Harte made a big contribution to Alf's goal by picking out Kebe, who obviously gets that particular assist.

So, as I see it, Kebe gets two assists (a little unlucky, should be a goal and an assist) and Harte gets an assist (two halves)

and I think that's a reasonable reflection of their contribution

Nope. I can READ the smaller print, but I simply like larger print.

That's my "impression" (feeling) too, but the OS has him down as two and so does transfrmkt

and I don't have time to trawl through

Last year I was keeping stats as I went, and the OS was not always accurate...

def kebe for both

i can only assume a half assist is for an assist to the assist

Trawled through

Yes, Alf has four

But tho' the OS gives McAnuff 4 assists I can only find 2.

Morrison's goal at Charlton came after a McAnuff corner (and the OS gives the assist)
but it seems to be a loose ball...

def kebe for both

i can only assume a half assist is for an assist to the assist

IMO if a winger (say Kebe) puts in a peach of a cross giving a CF a free header
and instead of going for goal the CF heads it down to a second striker for a goal
then the winger deserves a half-assist (giving 1.5 assist for the goal)

So Church's stolen goal is an assist for Kebe and a half for Harte.

Had Church not touched it over the line then it was a Kebe goal and a Harte assist

Fair enough, I think it's a worthy attempt to reflect a players attacking worth, but how are you applying this across the rest of the season? If you're going to put these stats up as a guide to attacking contribution it really needs to be consistent across all players and all goals throughout the season.

Will you include a run off the ball that is key to a player having the space to either make or receive a pass?

I'm fully behind the fact that more than one player can 'assist' a goal, I just think it's very difficult to measure accurately and it will still come down to your much feared human process of recall and perception.
