When he was at W&E Mudge said he was hoping he could get him (Robinson) to stay and get involved in coaching as he had a lot to offer.

Tad Showbiz May stay local and go to Reading Town on Saturday for the FA Vase v Cowes Sports alternatively BSS for Maidenhead at home to Dorchester.

... Big question is whether 'Razor' is still suspended - from what my mate heard at the FA Sunday Cup game @ Scours last week it isn't clear if anyone @ RTFC knows either!

.... Reportedly he's picked up another lengthy ban from the Sunday league which runs along with one he's been serving for the Hellenic - shame he was having a terrific season to date.

Not going to be their problem anymore as it looks like he's signed for Hungerford now.

... just noticed this in the on-line version of the Chronic!

Bobby Wilkinson knows him pretty well, in fact I think they'll be Sunday teammates this season if Bobby is still playing for Dee Roas, so shouldn't think Gilkes would've had too much input on things.

...wasn't this mentioned above - they also reached this stage the first time they entered in 96/7 :?: - anyways - not sure but I don't think the 4th round is regionalized - though may have been changed back again recently -
- I know Witney lost in this round two seasons ago to a side from the Peak District. (New Mills)

... got to this one - long trek there 'n back on a dull M4/M5 - very near to where we went last week (Tiverton) bit nervous beforehand since the two closest NL matches had been called off that AM (Elmore & Cullompton) but they'd inspected @ Willand v.early cos the away team were travelling a fair distance up from Cornwall. Sizeable crowd - official given as 160; I stopped counting after 220 - no sign of Mr A. - maybe he was hiding in the vast crowd - his mate scored the Falmouth goal (I think?) :?

I went to the Reading Town v Cowes Sports game. Even game between two sides who attempted to play football on a very difficult pitch and a first half dominated by a strong wind across the ground from the railway line. 1-0 was probably a fair result, Cowes were fairly wasteful in the final third of the pitch in both halves and I don't recall the Town keeper making a save of note.

The goal was early in the second half, a header from a corner and Town could have got a similar goal soon after but the keeper made a decent save. The last 10 minutes or so were fairly negative from Town who seemed to prefer to keep the ball in the corners rather than try to score a second.

The game was played in good friendly manner despite a number of heavy challenges from both sides nothing was going to boil over.

£6 to get in, 2 pints of well looked after Guinesss at £3.40 pint (take note RFC!) and an ok game of football. Crowd was a bit disappointing, thought more Reading fans would attend - att rough h/c 170 including a decent following of about 50 from Cowes.

..odd seems to be the trend in FA Comps that the offical figs are so well adrift of by-standers headcounts - most dissapointing aspect for me is that the next round isn't until 21st Jan when I'll be 'otherwise engaged' (H vs Hull?) - Round 5 is Feb 11th (H v Cov) - may renew interest on 3rd March for the Q-Fs if any local sides survive that far?

... elsewhere - Holders Whitley Bay got through; chasing their 4th succesive Vase win - bt Bridlngton 5-1 yesterday.

Went to watch Binfield on Saturday against Flackwell Heath in the FA Vase, with Binfield running out 3-1 winners. First time I have watched 'The Moles' and I was quite impressed. Play some decent footy and fully deserved their win on Saturday. Nice little set up there too, certainly somewhere I will go a bit more often when not watching Reading

The next round it goes national and they have a trip to Tividale(Dudley/West Bromwich area) or Brocton(Stafford) to look forward to, I think Reading Town got another home draw

... indeed RTFC did get another home draw (their 5th in 6 rounds so far) vs one of two Western league sides; Ilfracombe or Larkhall - not sure of relative standards here: - the general 'NL Anorak' view is that the Western league is one of the stronger southern-based leagues at STEP05 but that view isn't necessarily backed up by performances in the Vase or Cup. That's assuming you exclude Truro who won it as a STEP06 side, on the grounds they were pretty exceptional. RTFC have a mixed record against more westerly opponents - got a bit of a hiding down in Brizzle last year vs a STEP06 side from the Western League?

Other Hellenic sides in action Old Woodstock who beat Wantage yesterday afternoon - H v Bethnal Green and Shortwood (nr Stroud) H v Enfield 1893 (as opposed to Enfield Town who play in the Ryman and have just moved into the QE2 stadium just off the A10 in Enfield)

...feel a bit for South Park in Windsor's league (CCL) - this is only their second venture into the Vase and they've been drawn away at Whitley Bay having got lumped with Guildford early on last season! :?

Should Hanworth Villa (the other CCL survivor) get past Herne Bay in their replay on Wed night, they'll have to go up to to Newcastle Benfield from the Northern League.

the only WESSEX league survivors are Bournemouth (Poppies) - who have a home draw vs Royston from the Spartan South Mids. The other SSM survivor STEP6 Ampthill (village not far from MK) have to play @ Oadby in West Bromwich or Tipton on the outskirts of Leicester.

If you go and watch the Moles when the weather picks up, beware of wasps in the clubhouse! I have a lot of respect for Binfield. A lot of clubs talk about being community clubs but Binfield really are. Impressive youth set up and a thriving social club. Add to that, really good people there as well.

Windsor coasted to a 3-2 win against Badshot Lea. Should have been 4 or 5 up at half time. BL improved in the second half but should never have been let back into the game. How their skipper stayed on the pitch is beyond me. Another good turnout from Windsor with 40-50 supporters making the trip. Think the official attendance was 89.

We are away to South Park on Saturday who provided us with our first competitive opponents. South Park were very good value for their draw back in August and may well have won. It will be a good test for us to see how far we have progressed.
