Whatever happened to the sly up-the-side-of-the-nose-pretending-to-have-an-itch digitus erectus? Footballers have the brains of rocking horses.

Apologies to any rocking horses reading this thread.

Judging by the expression, I would say apology not accepted.

Says 'Arkle' in the background? I wondered what had happened to the legendary steeplechaser.

6ft Kerplunk Its a bit pathetic that fans always get on their high horse about players reacting like this. If you're prepared to hurl abuse at a player for 90mins you shouldn't be offended if they give you the finger in return.

What about a Cantona style attack? Is that acceptable?

There is something missing from giving someone a gesture that Cantona managed to include - contact.
If you give the finger to someone in the street - no action. Deck someone with a drop kick and you might find it's a little different.

No, don't think Suarez's reaction is particularly acceptable either. But its more than a little hypocritical of fans who are part of a baying mob for 90 mins to suddenly get deeply offended and upset when they get something directed back at them.

Presumably all those posters who were saying that Patrice Evra has "form" and made it up, and that Suarez is innocent will post an apology and admit that they were wrong?????

If Liverpool do not appeal this ban, Suárez's first match back will incredibly be against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Script written.

Stolen from Twitter, so not sure if correct, but post-worthy anyway!

2034: Liverpool have released a statement in the light of Luis Suarez's eight-game ban. They are not happy. It says: "We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken."

Hmm, think they may be appealing...

Football fans would get a 3 year ban, don't see why a player should get less.

Presumably he'll appeal and there'll be a reduction in the length of the ban.
