There wasn't really an opening for a first team keeper at Premier League level this summer and why would Federici want to move to another Championship side when he's comfortable and established No1 at a play-off contending team?

Swansea, Villa, Utd, Spurs, West Brom & Wigan all signed keepers in the summer who've played a few. Wolves also brought in De Vries.

So if he's not considered good enough for West Brom, Swansea or Wigan... then he really isn't going to be considered good enough for anyone who isn't absolutely desperate.

He's got as high as he's getting, with us IMO. He may get a Prem move, but I can't see him playing much in anything less than dire straits.

Seems to have a soft spot for them and all the fans want to sign him, would prefer to sell federici to him any day, has the potential and even if Federici is marginally better now, he can't get much better.

Sounds like he's a perfect role model for a Reading striker then.

Like Simon Church?

Out of interest (but admittedly out of place on the thread), how many goals have been scored by our subs this season? It feels like quite a lot.

Did he save it - from the replay it looks like it hit the post without McCarthy's intervention.

TBF Ian he's not good enough for United or Spurs and Villa have given so strike 3 off there. Wigan were happy with Al-Habsi last season who spent the year on loan so just signed him up permanently. West Brom signed an England goalkeeper and why would Federici want to be understudy to Hennessy at Wolves?

That only really leaves Swansea and I believe he was linked with them as well but I do take the point that they didn't break the bank to try (if they did try) to sign him.

This is true, but just pointing out there were openings and he wasn't considered good enough, because there were better players available. I'm sure Fed would have considered himself pushing Hennessy for the No. 1 spot too.

Like I've said, Andersen and McCarthy are pushing Fedders into his best season for us yet. It's their pressure that's doing it. I think he could be playing well enough to earn a move in the summer. If that happens then we'll all feel confident giving the jersey to McCarthy. If he doesn't move on, we have a real conundrum. We could see either Andersen or McCarthy have highly successful careers which barely benefit Reading FC at all if we play this wrong.

Stat in the programme yesterday incidentally - I think our subs have scored in around 24% of McDermott's (permanent) matches in charge - next nearest was Pards on maybe 16%. Couldn't tell you about this season off the top of my head

11/26

We've also scored 16 out of 26 goals in the last 15 minutes + injury time, 7 in the last 5 minutes + injury time.

I think we have to sell Feds and keep McCarthy, like Banks was sold to keep Shilton--you can't keep two outstanding goalkeepers on the books at this level.

Can't sell unless you can find a buyer.

This is the sad truth. We're going to be forced to sell McCarthy because we can't keep all three and we're not going to get good value on Federici, assuming we can even manage to shift him.

Federici may be marginly better right now. But it's fairly obvious McCarthy is going to be well ahead of him within a year or two if he can keep playing. Personaly I'd rather it was with us for absolutely as long as possible.

Unfortunately, that brings us back to no one being likely to match our value and Feds' ambitions.
Hopefully we can extend the loan to the end of the season and flog Federici in the summer. But it seems unlikely.

Much less to do with the sub-effect than the fact
that we play very tight for the first hour before opening up.

As we rarely bring on subs in the first hour
and we've scored just 6 goals in that first hour
the stats are meaningless
