Silver Fox
soggy biscuit Galatasaray make undisclosed offer to West Ham for Carlton Cole (Turkish transfer window still open)

Saw on SSN last night that the Turkish transfer window was still open, can anyone tell me why? I thought this ridiculous window was something to do with UEFA wasn't it?

Something to do with the Islamic Holidays of Ramazan and Bayram. Last year because the August Bank Holiday here was 31st August the UK window was extended to the Tuesday - I assume it's the same there.
RAMAZAN (ŞEKER) BAYRAMI
Ramazan is followed immediately by the three-day national holiday of Ramazan Bayramı (also called Şeker Bayramı, Candy Festival; Eid es-Seghir or Eid al-Fitr in Arabic) which falls on these (estimated) dates:

2011: Half-day "preparation" (arife) holiday on Monday, 29 August, full-day holidays on 30 and 31 August, and 1 September (Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday).

Ideal
soggy biscuit Nicolas Anelka joins Shanghai Shenhua

No doubt his major reason for joining them is excitement over a great sporting challenge, the level of football there is sure to be so much higher than in the premier league...

Plus he's always been a supporter of Shanghai Shenhua and playing for them is a dream come true.

Rumoured Chelsea will look to very quickly cut their losses on Torres and accept £20m for him in January. That’s probably no more than a rumour, and I’m sure it would take £30m at least – but if he goes most likely destination might be City, they’ll have ‘space’ with Tevez leaving. I’d wet myself if Suarez and Torres at Liverpool came to pass, but that would be the ultimate murking for Chelsea, so can’t see that would happen.

Leaving them with Drogba (33, going to ACON), Lukaku (18, no goals for Chelsea yet), Kalou (going to ACON) and Sturridge. Can't see them shipping him out till the summer really, unless they can bring in a replacement and probably another ready-made striker in Jan.

Also rumours they are looking to bring in Eduardo Vargas from Chile for £12m or so.

Not sure what Northampton fans think about having Torres as their new manager. Or indeed Chelsea fans' thoughts on their new No9.

Donovan signing for Everton on loan again. Thought he was excellent when he was last there, surprised no-one else has gone in for him.
