Mr Angry Speaking personally, I don't want any player to think that they are bigger than the club; if he wants to go unless we pay him what he wants and we aren't prepared to pay him that sum, then lets get rid off asap otherwise the whole thing becomes a long drawn out saga (something that thankfully didn't happen with Long, Mills or Doyle).

Hasn't been portrayed that money isn't the issue, more the length of contract? We have offered a deal to the end of next season whereas he has seen other players getting deals longer than that?

Personally I would give him 2 and a half year contract......

Surely it's the total value of the contract though isn't it WR?

If we offer him 2 and a half years the salary will be chopped down to reflect the extended length. That's the way I read it from Hammond's comments a while back.

Kebe set to leave Reading FC this month
By Jonny Fordham
January 04, 2012

Jimmy Kebe's days at Reading look numbered with manager Brian McDermott admitting he may be forced to sell his star winger.

Contract-rebel Kebe refused an offer to become Royals’ highest earner earlier this season and the club’s director of football Nick Hammond has already rejected a bid for the 27-year-old, believed to be from Championship rivals West Ham United. Leicester City have previously also shown an interest.

McDermott and Hammond previously insisted that Kebe would not be sold, but will now look to spark a bidding war during the January transfer window rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.

McDermott told the Reading Post: “We either have to do a contract here, or my gut feeling, is that if a contract is not signed at Reading, then something will happen somewhere else.

“There will be interest from other parties, I know that. We’ve had interest and we’ve had a bid. We turned it down, but that’s all I will say.”

GetReading (or the Evening Post, whatever it's called now) and Jonny Fordham have much more previous with getting these things right and as Fordham points out every week they are "the only Reading paper at all home and away games" so do often seem to have more of a direct interest and more knowledge when it comes to RFC

fordham is appalling, and is 90% wrong. about everything- despite being at the training ground all the time

im pretty sure mcdermott feeds him utter crap on purpose, like when he told him were were def not in for le fondre- then signed him, the same day

Yes it is, but if he was worth that much now then he is also worth that much for an extra year - he is only 27/28 and should be in his prime, it isn't like he is in his 30's.

Isn't the implication that we don't think he's worth that amount though, or at least can't afford to commit long term to it, otherwise we would've offered it in the first place.

By saying you can have £X per week but only for a year I'd guess we're just making the offer for the sake of it, knowing that he was unlikely to take it.

Well according to McD in the latest Chronic article discussions are still ongoing, Jimmy still wants to stay and he is hoping that something will be sorted. Doesn't sound to me like we are making offers just for the sake of it.

That might've been the wrong term to use, but I'm guessing they made that offer as an alternative knowing that it wasn't what he wanted (but we could afford it) and so was a step in the negotiations.

I'm certain they're subsequent offers aren't just extending the salary in that 1 year contract over the 2 and half year or so he wants.

Surely nobody will bid something as crazy as that for Kebe when he's free in 5 months? Madness. I'd want that upfront and not some of it dependant on promotion.

More on this from the Chronicle. I hope this is correct and a new deal can be done.

kebe one of the few players we have capable of creating summat out of nuffink
and is THE most entertaining player at the club

even if he does leave in the summer- hes worth more than 1.75 million to us till then

His exact words are here

To me he seems to avoid the question of it being a new contract offer (following the one made in the summer) but does confirm its 2 1/2 years

Jimmy was upset that Jobi and Gorkss got 3 year contracts last Summer when he only got 2. He wanted 3 so fingers crossed it should do the trick.

Problem is he can now talk to other clubs so they could offer more.
