FiNeRaIn He obviously has some kind of ability as he is an international

playing international football for South Africa is as simple as getting a passport for the country. their national team is abject.

Simon Church & Hal Robson-Kanu playing international football for Wales is as simple as having a granny born there. their national team is abject.

Ian Royal
RoyalJames101 Just give Cedric time. He'll make it one day.. on to the pitch. I think.

As long as we don't have to give Khumalo time without a drastic and immediate improvement from him should he take the pitch for us again.

Got to agree with E-P. I have no idea what this means.

How pissed off must he be that he signed such a shit defender in the first place. At least Spurs haven't had to pay him (as much) for 6 months, and iirc they have the recall option. I'm not positive we can send him back to get him off our wages.

There's probably some sort of brown envelope involved somewhere, other than here.

Theory currently is that Bongani will remain on loan until the end of the season as cover (saves money on buying a replacement you see).

They must be struggling to find another club to take him on loan then.

Hooray for Reading to take pity on so many sh/te players.

Ah, of course!

A player can't be any good unless he costs a lot of money, and so if they're cheap they must be crap.

As a work of fiction it's top notch. Don't let the fact that it doesn't actually match the reality of the situation cloud things for a minute, though.

Svlad, you are just as guilty propagating the notion “all proven transfers end up sh/t”, as I am of all unknown ones.

On another thread I asked the question: who in our current side deemed a ‘success’ started out a cheap anonymous transfer?

I’ll tell you the answer: none of them. Only one fits the second part of that criteria, but is far from a success – ALF.

The best players? Proven players, brought in for decent money.

That's the reality, bud.

A total misrepresentation on there. My position is that instead of the knee-jerk assumption that because a player is cheap he must be shit, I'm happy to hold fire and see how he plays and what he does before making judgement.

I also subscribe to the view that when you buy a cheap player your taking minimal risk, so you only need one player in 50 to turn out to be a "nugget" - and they fund all of the others.

Above all, Reading's success in the last 10 years has been founded on the mantra of "young, hungry players with something to prove." That's directly in opposition to "proven players" - to them it's just another club, just another job, just another place to go along and pretend to kiss the badge.

And it's about time that you and others accepted the reality that the Doyle and Long scenarios are very, very, much the exception - even at RFC.

If you don't tend to get what you pay for in life, why does Madejski waste so much money on Bentleys?

As I said, RFC spend money more efficiently than just about every other club. Spending big sums brings no guarantees - it's just like buying more rickets for the lottery.

I honestly can't believe you'd really consider Bentleys are relevant! Can't find prices on-line, but assuming a Bentley costs about £280,000, that'd pay the player's wage bill for less than a week.

I think the point was more along the lines of the Bentley is a superior car, hence it's price tag, and that ultimately you get what you pay for on all but the odd occassion.

I don't think the point was about wasting money on cars when Madejski could put it into the club instead.
