Extended-Phenotype A few seasons ago we needed strikers, and signed 37 leftbacks. Now we need a creative midfielder and we seem fixated on strikers.

MIDFIELDER, McDermott! MIDFIELDER!

it is only the 12th of jan, and we have lawson d'ath and jake taylor

Who are both the first names on the teamsheet...

It's Agyemang according my source at the club.

Wages for Campbell or Bothroyd would be too much.

Well, this just returns us full circle to the catalyst of our discussion – we should be buying people with pedigree to address immediate problems, not wasting our time on nobodies under the false impression this strategy has been successful.

At the very least we should be replacing what we lose, and the leftover money going towards 'black holes'.

not really

if the coaches think those two kids will be able to play in that position next year it would be silly to waste money on a player there now

especially as we dont currently play with an attacking midfielder and seem to be muddling along ok

If you stand still you just end up going backwards.

Other teams will be strengthening. I think the easiest way to improve our side for the second half of the season would be an addition like one of these.

If Taylor is ready to come straight in I'd be surprised. He's shown promise but not exactly torn it up Exeter.

Although they have got him out of position.

We've been linked to half their squad in the past...

Wycombe Royal
Hoop Blah How many of Howards assits were from his corners though?

Not denying he's the more creative of our current options but I think the stats are weighted in his favour because he was taking corners (and probably free kicks) for quite a bit during his time in the side.

I totally agree we need some more creativity through the middle too. It's not just creativity either, it's composure and an ability to keep the ball and get us passing as opposed to just quickly moving the ball forward for the lads up front to battle defenders for.

With Harte in the team last season I doubt he was taking that many.

He took a fair few corners. I think a couple of his assists came from set pieces. Although that still doesn't undermine the argument given it made the point he wasn't exactly a success.
