How many of those 17 have come from strikers? Which is what you originally said ....

Ipswich A - 3 goals, 1 from striker
Peterborough H - 3 goals, 2 from striker
Blackpool A - 0 goals
West Ham H - 3 goals, 2 from striker
Leeds A - 1 goal, 1 from striker
Brighton H - 3 goals, 0 from striker
Ipswich H - 1 goal, 0 from striker
Cardiff A - 1 goal, 0 from striker
Stevenage H - 0 goals
Watford A - 2 goals, 1 from striker

7/17 is hardly prolific

I figured that after i posted it. I still don't think we need a another striker, and BM will back me up in that by not buying another this January.

10 games, 2 strikers each getting a goal every 2 games, that's ten goals

But 1 in 2 is top-striking

So if you are saying we are averaging a striker's goal every 257 minutes (1800/7)
that's a bit worse than a goal every 2.5 games, when 2.0 games is excellent.

They are not THAT far away. If they got 3 and 2 in their next two
they'd be 12 in 12, smack on 1 in 2 (cos there's 2 strikers)

It doesn't mean your argument has been backed, it could mean that McD hasn't had the funds to bring another one in. I would like another striker in, but not at the expense of a creative central midfielder.

Goals from shots /shots needed per goal
manset 3 from 4 / 1.33
rhodes 25 from 49 / 1.96
sharp 10 from 21 / 2.10
church 6 from 17 / 2.83
le fondre 6 from 25 / 4.17
hunt 3 from 21 / 7.00

Def room for improvement up front....

But Manset should get more opportunities!

Where have you got those stats from? The ones on the os are completely different.

Snowball Where's the hissy-fit?

I simply believe that you shouldn't discount ALF's very good assist rate (Church's is miserable, always has been)

Also, as I've pointed out elsewhere, with so few goals, one goal as a sub drastically changes things

Not enough minute/goals to show the difference.

I would expect ALF to beat Church by a good whack come season's end

I haven't discounted it you moron. It's utterly irrelevant to a discussion solely centred on goal scoring. You don't dictate the subject of the dialogue between other people, you ridiculously arrogant fuktard.

Simon's Church Church is far more clinical though, in the league he's scoring every 3.83 shots compared to ALF's 5.6 shots per goal...

Just seen this post and it's hilarious. The idea that Church is more clinical than anyone just makes me chuckle.

For that stat to have any meaning you'd also have to include all the times Church should get a shot in but doesn't which would make it look a whole lot different!

No, the stats are facts. Clearly your perception of Church as being a poor finisher has clouded your judgement of him.

Yeah, that and the fact the stat only shows half the picture...

I can't really tell if you got it but both of my posts were jokes. Although Church does take fewer shots per goal than Alfie.

If a striker is always trying to shoot, he'll get off more shots and they might
have less goals-per-shots efficacy, but he'll get goals because he has more shots.

Or a striker can over-think and try to make every half-chance an absolutely clear-cut chance.
His "lethality" will go up (because he only shoots when he sees the whites of their eyes etc)
but still won't get loads of goals.

Or a striker may get into positions where he gets half-chances but is unselfish and finds
his strike partner instead. He gets goals but he also gets a lot of important assists (ALF)

The there are wingers who get a few goals but waste so many shots (McAnuff)

05 ON - 07 OFF - 0 HW - 3 Goals - A goal every 4.0 shots - Mattieu Manset
18 ON - 09 OFF - 0 HW - 6 Goals - A goal every 4.5 shots - Simon Church
21 ON - 13 OFF - 1 HW - 6 Goals - A goal every 5.8 shots - Adam Le Fondre
15 ON - 07 OFF - 0 HW - 3 Goals - A goal every 7.3 shots - Hal Robson-Kanu
10 ON - 13 OFF - 0 HW - 3 Goals - A goal every 7.9 shots - Noel Hunt
18 ON - 17 OFF - 5 HW - 4 Goals - A goal every 8.0 shots - Jobi McAnuff

McAnuff in previous seasons has been FAR more wasteful.

Despite (possible) other issues with Manset he's the one who
seems to score all types of goals

A great distance shot he made himself, a VG header, a clever back-heel etc

lowerwestjnr Sharp is a player who suits this club, though i don't think we need him.

Yeah we don't need a striker who scored 1 in 2 at this level last year

I regret this comment now

Ha ok. I was just trying to get Snowball to bite, I seem to remember that for a long time his defence of Long was that it only took him few shots to score and I wondered what he made of it being the same for Church.
