I'd like to but I don't think I'll be able make it. They sound like a highly rated group and it was quite a good idea to have the signing session to attract more fans.

As an aside, if Niall Keown plays for us in the future will the Keowns be the first father and son to play for out first team?

Must surely have been some in the club's first 30 or 40 years, but I can't think of any. The only other pairing I can come up with is that Joe and Maurice Edelston both played (but Joe did so only in wartime games).

If we ever re-sign Forster-Caskey this question will be more difficult to answer in future...

One of my employees had a chat with Martin Keown in an Oxford pub last week. Said the aim was for his son to play for Arsenal as soon as possible! There's gratitude for you.

I'm going.

A very rare chance to see some non-first team RFC football. The club beef up the academy no end ('fantastic people') so it's a welcome opportunity to see what it's all about. And Cup football too!

What are the rules if drawn? Replay? Extras and pens on the night?

Think it's extra time and penalties on the night, not 100% sure though.

Were the Dennis Butlers of the early 70's related?

No they weren't.

One match in which they played also featured a Dennis Butler on the opposing side.

Amazed I can;t think of another father and son to have played for Reading (ex Webbs) - but I can't.

Used to see the academy when they were at Bisham now and again.

Well worth it. They tend to try to play a passing game rather than "play the channels", if there's a hard tackle the players leap right back up again unless they are genuinely hurt, they don't continually scream at the referee and we do seem to have some genuine talent trying to get through.

Agreed, it used to be a good way to watch some decent football. A real shame that these cup games are the only access we really have to non-first team football.

Denis Allen played for Reading while his son Martin was assistant manager... about as close as I can think to a father-son duo!

Should be going to this, will be nice to go to a game with something on the line but no real pressure involved.
