rfc2001 This investment will enable us to hold onto players now as opposed to spend spend spend. So when our next SIG LONG DOYLE et al comes through we will keep hold them. Which is more pleasing than spending on random's.

TheMaraudingDog Wow. Some very divvy and excitable clueless Reading fans out there.

Im actually very  at the lack of caution being shown here.

More often than not new owners coming in with promises leave the club in the shit.

lack of caution? from who exactly? you can be sure madejski has vetted the investor in great detail, and although you cannot guarentee anything, this will be safer than what we've seen at the likes of portsmouth or dare i say it manchester united with their whopping great loans.

lets not get carried away, this is a new investor but not a billionaire. someone with fresh ambition and drive and a sightly bigger wallet has arrived, so we are better off straight away. i don't want to see a chelsea or man city situation here. this sounds (so far) like a good match for us.

For a long time some of us have been saying that we can't keep selling our best players and that if we did we would only go one way.

The Madjeski followers jumped on us, accused us of high treason and told us we were completely wrong.

Well guess what - freed of the shackles, McDermott has just spoken out. Amongst the things he said were:

'You can't keep selling your best players. If you do, you will only go in one direction.'

'All I ever wanted was to be allowed to keep my best players.'

'I am sure that if we had been in a position to keep Shane Long last year, he would have stayed because of my relationship with him and if Shane Long had still been with us, where do you think we would have been now.'

But, Brian, you must be wrong because the Madejski fan club have said so.

Agreed. Prior to the Premiership and Mr. Mad's realisation of the harsh realities, we kept hold of Sidwell, Shorey, Kitson etc. whilst occasionally adding bigger signings such as Convey and Lita. A return to that policy would suit me nicely.

Build a team over a decent period and keep hold of all the bright sparks, and we'll be in the Premier League again before long with Brian at the helm. He will finally have the chance to build a team without it being dismantled over the summer.

Exactly! Brian didn't sound too excited tbf, but I expect he's been told not to say anything about the new people. LOL @ JM sounding pissed on the pitch before the game - he's not quite the new Delia though - thank goodness.

Total agreement with Bmc. If this investment allows us to strengthen a little, develop and then Keep our players then we could be onto something. What could we have done had we held on to Siggy and Shane long........

Might have something to do with the match his team had just lost.

Oh yeah!

His team has lots plenty of times and produced a good number of equally p*ss poor performances but he's never said anything like this before. And if Madejski has only retained 49% he can't sack him for airing his frustrations.

LOL at BBC Radio Berks who think that because the new investors won't have 75% they don't control the club. True, they can't force Madejski to sell his balance of the shares but 51% is bigger than 49% and for a reason!

Shows what a top top man he is. Constantly stating he was happy with the squad etc. he never went moaning to the press about how he could not buy this that and the other and him being intelligent to know the situation with Mad and his ever decreasing pockets.

That's what I said - JM might be "Chairman" but it will count for nothing as he won't have any veto on any proposals the new set up make that he doesn't agree with. I can't see how he can be so sure that things won't change. He also said the ethos of the club remains the same. The ethos is to cut our cloth.

McDermott has to play it down, otherwise clubs will try and rip us off assuming we have millions to spend.

Andy Carroll being the perfect example, Newcastle knew the funds Liverpool had available and anally pumped them.

I just hope the new investor stays away from his homeland. Otherwise, given the way he has dealt with some other Russian billionaires, our new guy might as well be this man:
