spending 40 million quid on half a football club

i read it as the whole deal was for 40 million, but theyve only aquired half the club for now
ie theyve spent 20 million on 51%

Thought SJM valued us at more than 40 million..

As far as we know the only Russian involved is Anton and that whole link is just guilt by association, we don't know who he's got behind him yet.

He is educated over here in the west so it seems likely that unless his dad is the major backer (personally I doubt this, he wasn't helping out with the Everton bid) he's got a bunch of european or perhaps american business men (His current employer is an American firm, for whom he does investment management) behind him who see that this could get them into the UK market.

Bandini ^ bit vague Norrers. There are two principal attractions for Russians investing in UK football clubs:

1. Money laundering.
2. Increased name recognition thus making it harder for the Russian State to go after them.

Bit cynical, I think they're into gaining a foothold.

However I find it disconcerting that the word 'Mafia' comes up as third option on predictive google search.

On the Foxes forum apparently the Daily Mail journalist has said anton is worth 1.4bn

If that's true, bloody hell he's done well for himself since 2004.

Bandini
Royal Rother

It was the "What's in it for them" part I was answering.

Yes, but

what's in it for them by investing money now for transfers
prestige, furthering their relationship with the country
but they're remaining anonymous, apart from Anton K, who it appears would have preferred to remain anonymous, so prestige related reasons aren't really plausible in relation to the initial investment.

Of course, it may just be that the initial investment is very small, and they can afford to write it off if need be

I'd have thought that they believe injecting a small amount of money now increases the chance of promotion this season.

In that even they'll have bought what will be a premiership club for the price of a championship one. Surely that's worth a gamble of a couple of million quid for these guys?

last word on JM valuation was 100 million in the prem.
~80 million upon relegation when still recieving parachute payenments. but that was many years ago now
due to loss of those and alot of big name players, and his need for money/wish to see us succeed that will have come down.

the article i saw said theyve bought 51% and the deal could reach 40 million quid.
40 million is also the amount money JM has ploughed into the club and is owed or had converted to shares etc

Red How did these Russian chaps come up with the name Thames Sports Investment?

Are they also in talks with Redingensians Rams and Reading Hockey club?

Given the lad's football knowledge he was probably making some 'heritage' reference to Thames FC and Thames Valley Royals. Augurs well.

Also I noted SJM's Freudian slip somewhere refering to TSI as Thames Valley Sports Investment.

The Maily Dail started the rumour that Anton was worth £1.4b.

[HH] The new generation:
“The new generation has more freedom,” said Anton Zingarevich, the 28-year-old son of entrepreneur Boris Zingarevich, who with partners sold 50 percent of Russia’s biggest paper producer Ilim Pulp Enterprise to International Paper in 2006. “We also have more opportunities; the trick is using them.”

This would explain how Boris may have gone from 330 million to billionaire status since 2004

Ener1, Antons current employer is also his fathers company.

FiNeRaIn there will be some serious, serious additions to the squad. I've heard silly names being thrown around

Such as Ben Dover, Iva Biggun and I.P Freely?

100 or so pages were an absolute banker aswell, hence TBM not needing to type a single word into the OP

I'm standing by my 178 pages prediction.

I think we all know that TBM is counting every page.

My main concern isn't really TSI coming in and running us badly. It's TSI coming in and getting us promoted, taking the option of buying out SJM completely at a good price and then flogging us to any old tosspot for a big old profit as a Premier League club.

Even if Brendy is wrong and it's £40m for half the club, that takes us up to about £80m for the whole club when we were supposedly valued at £100m when in the Premier League. That could conceivably be £10m profit in two years even injecting a further £10m in wages and transfers.

That ain't bad is it?

Fingers crossed though.
