I think they wanted him on a free transfer and we were asking for a fee.

Blakey's Right Peg

Although apparently Barnsley have signed Micheal Tonge on loan this week.

I take it Jackett and Millwall didn't particularly rate Howard then? Heard next to nothing about them wanting him back.

Haven't Barnsley also sold Danny Haynes recently?

Vision
melonhead
Vision Then how are we going to hold onto players that are in demand from other clubs prepared to pay them way over our salary cap.

Thats the big stumbling block in TSI's rhetoric so far for me. If they or indeed McD think they can keep the same wage structure and players who know they can earn substantially more elsewhere will be happy to stay then I think they are deluding themselves somewhat.

we are already very good payers at championship level though, if you are proven/experienced.
so i dont see a problem with this
it just means we now have the fee money to buy when we didnt have it before, and the money to increase the wage bill to afford to pay more players the top whack.
none of that involves breaking the wage structure, which theyve said they wont

will that stop anyone going of man utd come calling? no.

Will it stop players going to the likes of Wolves or West Brom if they're in a higher division is more to the point.

Again you're missing the point I'm making though. It's not about buying players that I'm questioning at this point. What I'm saying is that you'd assume its the highest paid players at the club that other teams want. If we're not going to increase their level of wage to ward off clubs that can offer significantly more then how does TSI think they can hold onto them? The best way of course would be to convince them we have a great chance of promotion ourselves but we've been pretty damn close the last few seasons and it still hasn't helped us.

Time will tell I guess and the will to keep players will be stronger if we don't have to sell to balance the books. As I say I think it's naive to come out with a statement to say we wont need to sell our best players in the future if we're still in the Championship, the players are on championship wages and the Premiership wallets come calling.

i dont think McD is silly enough to believe it rules out losing players- its bound to make it easier to keep them though.

i would imagine that many players would rather stay here now and see how we go under the new owners than go to a prem club who could be relegated

Yeah I think he is at Charlton now.

Perhaps Hill does have some room to do a little bit of business then.

manset(reading) plus cash for matt ritchie (swindon)

Reading are looking to sign Crewe's Nick Powell with former Hereford striker Mathieu Manset going the other way on loan with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season.

[Yes please!]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lol not a chance, nick powell is wanted by aresnal, chelsea and liverpool...doubt he would move to reading

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love the way Crewe always link their players with the top sides. They are 4th division for a reason. West Ham have had a good look at Powell and so have Bristol City. {Ed003's Note - Good prospect,Powell }

I like the sound of this one. It is not as if he is getting a game every week is it. WCBAP though - even with the roubles coming in.

Villa might be happy with it but Fulham might not be so keen.

Reading have turned their attention to Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard after losing out on Billy Sharp at the eleventh hour.

Royals have agreed a fee with Bristol City and permission has been granted for the club to talk to the player.

Reading FC are set to sign Kazakh attacking midfielder Zhambyl Kukeyev from Shakhter Karagandy. Kukeyev shot to fame when he scored Kazakhstan's consolation goal in the 5-1 loss to England in 2008.

Plausible.

Likewise, they're always the most interesting! He had a very good game against England and scored a decent goal. Can't remember anything else about how he played though.
