facaldaqui But of course, the whole thing stinks, loophole or not--and I expect this is just the thin end of the web.

That's why I thought they'd make Redknapp an escape goat

That's the sort of thing FA tribunals might do, but it's not how courts of law work, on the whole.

To be fair, Harry escaped. And he looks like a goat.

You didn't understand that did you?

My " it has to be a whoosh" comment was implying that it was an intentional mistake. Not that you were the victim of a whoosh.

IF the FA can see their way to taking him on with this cloud over him.

The FA can't then go well you were charged wrongly but that doesn't matter we think you are a bad influence.

Yes they can. He doesn't have the England Manager's job. They don't have to give it to him. They might find it difficult to sack him if he had it, although just being charged could potentially be enough for that if he'd been in the job at the time.

There's an interesting little snippet at the end of the bbc news article...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-16925280

"It can also now be reported that Mr Mandaric and Peter Storrie, Portsmouth's former chief executive, were cleared of tax evasion charges at a separate trial last October.

They were both accused of evading tax over player Eyal Berkovics's termination fee.

Mr Storrie was also accused of dodging tax on a signing-on fee to midfielder Amdy Faye when he moved from Auxerre to Portsmouth"

Just how dodgy can a club be before their shut down?

6ft Kerplunk So just to get this clear for my next tax return. I can just get my employer to put a large amount of money into an overseas account as a gift and I don't have to declare it for tax purposes. Excellent.

This is all very well (and I know you're joking), but the company has to pay tax on its income before it pays you. It would need spare assets abroad--as Mandaric has from selling various businesses--in order to give you gifts: it would have to subsidise its wage bill (gift bill) from overseas capital. Mandaric has plenty of spare money splashing about--capital he's built up in the past. On the face of it, if he wants to give Harry some of that money through banking channels such as those in the tax haven of Monaco, he can do so. But we can all guess that the money must have been related to Harry's performance in Mandaric's employ.

My boss is half Greek and has money over there, he can give me a gift from that so its his personal money not he company's. He can stick the money into my account on my birthday making it look like a present. Thats far more convincing than Redknapp's defence. What I don't understand from the evidence given is that Manaric was supposedly giving the money to Harry as a 'gift' which he would invest on Harry's behalf. How exactly did that money get invested if it never left Redknapp's account?

I'd guess successfully proving illegal activity might be more helpful to it than failing to prove it.

Seeing 'arry being interviewed leaving his house in his Range Rover yesterday I've done what any upstanding citizen would, and reported him to the police for driving without a seatbelt

Seal
Mr Angry
Seal I think he'll get off.

His lawyers are playing a very clever game where they are triangulating every element of this case between Harry, his accountant and Mandaric.

Be difficult to convince a jury beyond reasonable doubt of his guilt.

Also bear in mind this jury will be bored to tears by now. The longer these cases go on, the harder it is to get a conviction from a jury.

Selfishly I want him to get off as he's the best choice for next England manager we have!

1. Did Mr Redknapp set up an offshore account named Rosie47? YES
2. Did Mr Redknapp put money to the value of approx. £300K into this account? YES
3. When did Mr Redknapp declare this account to HMRC? 2 Months AFTER being arrested for tax evasion
4. Did Mr Redknapp pay income tax on the money deposited into this account? NO

Open and shut.

I believe the phrase is "told you so".

It is.

A truly appalling verdict and one that highlights how "celebrities" in Britain can get away with pretty well anything; this verdict will now be used as case law for similar trials in the future and will simply encourage more wealthy people to attempt tax evasion.

Did Harry Redknapp lie under oath in recent court trial?

by BonBoh » 13 Feb 2012 21:01

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/9071174/Harry-Redknapp-tax-evasion-trial-Tottenham-managers-best-quotes-from-court.html
Harry says: I am completely and utterly disorganised. I write like a two-year-old and I can’t spell. I can’t work a computer, I don’t know what an email is, I have never sent a fax and I’ve never even sent a text message.

In the post-match interview http://www.readingfc.co.uk/articles/20120211/mcdermotts-post-match-video-verdict_2264269_2607760/0,,10306~2607760~1,00.htmlafter the Coventry game, Royals manager Brian McDermott explains how he received a text from Harry Redknapp after the game congratulating him on the win and encouraging him to 'keep up the good work'. BMD also explains that he and Harry texted each other after Harry's trial.

It seems to me that old Harry wasn't so truthful, after all

Perjury, driving without seat belt ... he's clearly a serial law breaker.
