Like pretty much every other England team since 66 then.

What odds for Peter Taylor stepping in as caretaker?

We don't need a caretaker manager for the sake of a friendly or two, Pearce can take charge for those. Hopefully the FA can get this one right, and spent a month finding and choosing the right candidate for the Euros and beyond.

About medium. Robson, Venables, Hoddle, and Greenwood got us further. Even Sven got us a round further. Capello's done better than the likes of Taylor, Keegan, McLaren and Revie, though.

As they're only friendlies, Harry (or some other manager currently working in England) could probably handle those on a part-time basis until the end of the season, then take over full time for the Euros.

Ark Royal What a SHAMBLES. The red-tops will be delighted with this as the Sun and the Mirror as well as the Volkischer Beobachter - sorry, the Daily Mail - have been baying for his blood for ages, despite him having the best record of any previous England manager. It was because he was foreign and the next manager will be English regardless of his record; so 'Arry it is unless they go completely hatstand and choose Sam 'the Hutt' Allardyce.

Hodgson cries out as the safe choice, sadly. The blazer boys at HQ will love him--he's one of their own.

Ian Royal The only problem is our alternatives are shit, inexperienced, inexperienced and shit, not English or dodgy as feck.

Well 'not English' doesn't matter. I struggle to see how Hiddink or Mourinho would be bad appointments.

I think the nationality should be the same personally, and most reports seem to suggest the FA want to appoint an Englishman. Given how few of our players succeed abroad I'd also say plenty of English league experience is necessary, although I admit that doesn't rule out foreigners and it would be nice if someone had experience managing abroad as well.

If it wasn't for the massive egos and media pressure involved, and if it wasn't so soon after the failure at Liverpool I'd like to see Hodgson get a go. I also want to be able to like our manager.

If Redknapp does get the job, can we please see an end to him being called 'Arry ? That would be nice.

floyd__streete Stuart Pearce then :|

You'll all be begging for Capello back in 6 months.

What a joke, bROFLitish media and the FA, cLOLub EngLOLand indeed.

100% Agree

Stuart Pearce is a disaster waiting to happen. Capello did better than most could with these overpaid and overated players. Any remote chance of moderate success has now gone.

Even if Pearce is not given the task,t hen how on earth is the new manager going to find his best team in the few months before the tournemant. Bernstein should do the right thing and resign.

Not sure why people seem suprised by Capello quitting. The writing was on the cards as soon as the old cretins at the FA stripped John Terry of the captaincy and undermind Fabio.
