If Warnock is manager at least when we fail to meet expectations again he can offer some original excuses as to why we're so crap. He has an excuse for everything when he loses. Perfect fit.

wingnut As they're only friendlies, Harry (or some other manager currently working in England) could probably handle those on a part-time basis until the end of the season, then take over full time for the Euros.

He's not been managing Spurs at all for the last 4 weeks and they've been doing ok.

Could be a master stroke.

Hardly as though we covered ourselves in glory at tournaments with a manager who's been in charge for an extended period of time.

Bringing in a new manager and benefiting from that results bounce that often follows just before a major tournament sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

We're not blessed with the greatest choices at the moment, but why not pick a manger like the way we pick players? On form.

In which case Redknapp is the best candidate: most improved team, playing the best football.

Should have gone after the world cup 2010 fiasco yet the FA did not have the bottle to sack him because they renewed his contrcat idiot's.

Good luck to who ever gets the job, they are on a hiding to nothing!!

Bizarre - with the Euro's only a few months away surely they've got nothing to lose?

Focher Howard Wilkinson anyone :?:

Solid choice there.

Makes me laugh when people go on about Terry Venables being such a great England manager. He was only in charge for 5 competitive games, all of which were at home. And we only won 2 of those 5 and needed some very dodgy refereeing to get past Spain. I think people just remember the Holland game which was the best England performance I can remember.

For me it has to be a Englishman every time, regardless of how good our managers may be. Same principal should apply to every national team. Otherwise, whats the point? The England team should be for the best England has, and that includes the coach as well as the players.

Only 1 choice. Give it to Ian Holloway. The press conferences will be hilarious, his enthusiasm knows no bounds, and it robs Blackpool of their best chance of success this season.

Can't say I'm disappointed by developments as I don't think he'd done a very good job and never quite seemed too bothered by it all. The timing obviously isn't the greatest but realistically I don't think it will be much of an issue for a new manager to stamp his authority on things in the lead up to the Euros.

I agree that the manager should meet the same qualification criteria as the players, it is afterall supposed to be representative of the county. As that rule doesn't exist I'd be happy with Hiddink if for some reason it doesn't go to Redknapp right away.

How happy must Micah Richards be today though?

Agreed it would be entertaining, but he's too fragile to be in that role. Once the press turned on him after a bad result he would crumble as a man and manager. You need someone to deal with the pressure, only redknapp and mourinho have the pure backbone to do it I believe.

I've just seen a headline "Who wants he hardest job in football?" It's not really is it? You get paid handsomely to cruise past opposition you should cruise past having picked a team that any man in the pub could pick and then you only really have to get to the quarter finals of the tournament you qualify to have achieved the exepcted. Hell, even if you have an appaling first round, just scrape through to the knockout stages and then get utterly stuffed (video evidence required notwithstanding) in the 2nd round people will still say you did a good job, as this thread suggests.

Pick the squad on a phone vote (money raised can go towards Wemberley) and then send them off to the tournament with physios and someone who just makes sure they make it to the games and the reuslt will be exactly the same
