Capello's record betters that of Sir Alf Ramsey, yet so many find it easy to slate him and what he did for us. Harry Redknapp wouldn't be anything worth getting excited about, and you'll all hate him when he gets it all wrong on the international stage.

It doesn't really. Ramsey won the World Cup.

No Fixed Abode
TBM British manager please

Had enough of the foreigners - they don't have the passion

Thats what everyone said when Sven left the England job. And look what happened then?

Foreign manager doesn't work out, the English public want an English manager
English manager doesn't work out, the English public don't mind if it's foreign coach

here we go again.

McLaren was the easy choice, mainly cos of his involvement with the set up - it'll be a bit like having Pearce as manager now.

We do need a BRITISH manager though, obviously Harry is everyones choice but Martin O'Neill should also be considered......he has a knack of building confidence in players which tbh is what you need as an international manager.

Better record? Only because we have to play more games against crap opposition thanks to the idiot group sizes and more and more international dates to be filled. Take the record to the finals of a competion and it's worse as Ramsey has the World Cup win. And on top of it all the dreadful passionless performances we've being giving out make it seem so much worse.

As to the future, well I expect Pearce will be given the reins as caretaker while Redknapp is extracted from Spurs.

As to the job itself I'd go for Martin O'Neill or Steve Coppell above Harry Redknapp myself but then Coppell is a non starter as he wouldn't want the job and MO I think much prefers club football, it only really leaves 'arry. Wonder if El Tel would consider it again though....

I think even I could have got a decent run of results with the players available to select from. But just look back at the performances in the last World Cup. I have seen more life on a butchers slab. Qualifying for finals has been so very functional and straight forward especially with the way the draws advantage the better nations. Sir Alf did not have the luxury of having to go through qualifiers for the 66 or 70 World Cups. I wonder if you removed the 2010 and 2012 qualifiers from the picture, just how good is Capello's record then? Imagine having no competitive fixtures other than the WC Finals themselves? And I choose to ignore the Europeans as I don't know what happened!

Word on the street is Trevor Brooking in charge for the friendly against Holland. Why the bloody hell would they put him in charge of that game? What is wrong with Stuart Pearce? The players all know him and need at least a bit of continuity for the next game or so. What management experience has Brooking got? If they put him in for one game, overlooking Pearce, then Pearce won't get a look-in for permanent position. And if Warnock got within a sniff of the England job, I'd be supporting Wales. I actually would like Harry - I think he and Pearce between them could do a good job - and if Harry could depend on Pearce, he could still manage Spurs. IMO.

Its Brooking and Pearce that will be in charge

I think Brooking will be more and more involved in the England set up from here on - making sure the development of the kids is better so giving him more of an insight into the first team will help him understand what needs to be worked on etc

I didn't say trophies won. His record betters Ramsey's and all that have followed him, and by some way.

Rax .....please God - not Pardew - I don't think I'd be able to support England with that smug git in charge :(

well, he's ruled himself out

If Harry doesn't get the job how's the new manager going to win over the senior players who have been tweeting that Harry's the only choice?

They only want Harry so Spurs don't start winning the league

Comparing their records whilst excising from the records their respective performances at World Cups is pretty fukking pointless, don't you think?

Is that his W/L record, or his W/L record in competitive games only or more importantly his record when it matters?

Hardly surprising when he has been Capello's right hand eunuch. Just so long as that oxf*rd Brooking is kept well away from affairs.
