Back from the Game - Coventry (H)

by LoyalRoyalFan » 11 Feb 2012 17:05

Not the best performance but 3 points nonetheless.

Very cold :?

Federici and Karacan the stand out performers.

Bit of trouble between the opposing supporters as Libertine alluded to earlier. Spotted some riots vans hurtling towards the stadium as I left.

Thought the game was a routine win, we did just enough, we controlled it. Felt we could have stepped it up if they had clawed one back.

Thought their fans were good to be fair 1300 for bottom of the table, about three times more than we would bring there when we are top half.

Burnley will be a tougher ask.

3 points

Federici kept us in it

Kebe looked dangerous first half, faded 2nd

Church missed from 2 yards

saving the rest for when I can feel my hands again

Good support by the travelling Coventry faithful. Although your facts are wrong as we took near 3,000 there last season.

But concentrating on the game, we did what we had to do.

Very impressed with Legs on his return.

Connolly had a solid debut and his positioning is excellent, and just feel Hunt needs that little bit of luck and he could hit goalscoring form again

I thought it was a very poor display from us, Coventry pretty well outplayed us in all departments except the keeper.

For our goals, the first looked like a comical keeper mistake where he left it and was surprised when it went in. The second was bundled in from a corner but I really didn't have a clue who, there was a strange muted celebration as I think we all expected it to be disallowed for some random foul.

Of the players, Fed saved us, Ledge and Jem did ok, everyone were average or below. Connelly looked rusty and right back doesn't appear to be his position .

Still a good 3 points given we never really go going.

We never seemed to get going at all. Very dull first half and RFC scored with about the only two chances we had. Coventry looked very poor at the front and at the back first half.

Second half pretty much all Coventry and bizarrely against the bottom team Federici was the stand out MOTM as he kept us in it.

Number 13 were either not impressed or frozen cold - but were very quiet.

All the new boys did well - although Roberts was much quieter than against Bristol. Like the look of Cywka.

Good to see Legs back. Kebe pretty quiet apart from the moment of magic in the first half. Mills very quiet first half apart from one great cross but much more involved second half.

Still if you win 2-0 without getting out of first gear I suppose it cannot be all bad.

details of the trouble? in the stands or outside, or both?

we left at 89 mins to get back to the car and beat the que on the stairs. good banter in y26, cov were good for their support and we rammed some back down their throats which was good to hear.

thought we were ropey and cov looked quite good, but they have no strikers of any quality. their left winger was superb, yes please!

hunt shouldn't be in that side. hasn't scored in how long? never looks a threat, and bloody church comes on again in place of the striker that should be partnering roberts!

Read my post, I know that, I was there last year. It was our last game of the season. I'm saying if positions were reversed we would struggle to take 300.

Very good support from the Coventry fans, both in terms of numbers and vocal support throughout most of the game. Also able to laugh at the situation 'How sh*t you must be, it's only 2-0'!

They deserve better from their club/team.

Another three points ground out from a definite banana skin fixture and, but for Feds, they could have had us worried.

Federici made several mistakes, but also made one excellent save to deny Alex Nimley-T with his feet and another good one to stop a long range shot (though I think his positioning was poor which meant he had to do better). A typical "good shot stopper, bad at everything else" performance a la Julian Speroni.

No real stand outs today, equally nobody did badly. I'd like to see Church or preferably Le Fondre come in for Hunt.

Did McAnuff, Robson-Kanu, Griffin and Cummings all seize up yesterday or something? I didn't know any of them were injured.

not church for christ's sake!! he is bloody useless. swapping one goal shy striker for another. le fondre deserves a chance. it's baffling that he plays the 4th choice role when he is the stand-out natural finisher we need playing off of roberts.

Let's hope the PL clubs all take this sort of blind/blinkered view! Several mistakes? I saw one! Eeven when he makes a great save he gets accused of being poorly positioned in the first place!

Personally I reckon he should be dropped for tipping the shot over the bar rather than catching it cleanly!

Interesting that mills was prefered to Antonio. Could Antonio be off on loan?

Weird game. Coventry looked dangerous.

One lucky-ish goal and one set-piece goal
but we made plenty of chances, even if none went in.

This run is amazing.

4 wins from the last 6 games
7 wins from the last 9 games
9 wins from the last 12 games
10 wins from the last 14 games

And that's without playing particularly well. Kudos to McDermott for that.

9.0 Federici - A couple of oopses in the first half but was fantastic second-half and earned us the points
8.0 Harte - Thought he was solid and some very good crosses and corners, effectively made a goal
8.0 Gorkks - I love his old-fashioned, no-nonsense approach
8.0 Pearce - He must LOVE the fact the Gorkss has joined. What a great pairing
8.0 Connolly - Looked rusty and one dodgy moment but is CLASS. Great at sticking a foot in like Elwood
7.5 Mills - Looked quite ordinary in the first 30 minutes but looked much more dangerous second half. VG considering how long since he's played
9.0 Karacan - He is IMMENSE and works like a dog. Great player
9.0 Elwood - Got plenty of tackles in, loads of super safe passes, two great runs. One error 9forgiven!)
8.5 Kebe - Great first half and a goal (even if lucky). Seemed knackered in second half
9.0 Hunt - Unsung hero. Did REALLY well in first half, really putting it about. Deserves to stay as Roberts partner
8.0 Roberts - Gets the 8 because he got a goal. Barely touched the ball for 20 mins, but got better

Subs:

6.0 Church - God knows what Le Fondre has to do. Never looked dangerous and missed from close in
8.5 Cwyka - Would probably have got a 9 had he played longer. Beats men easily but works well with quick passes

Tabb not on long enough to grade

You can have one of them  one of them  and deffo one of them

You sir are totally clueless. A man of the match performance hence why all the players went over to him at the end as he got us out of jail!
