Pepe the Horseman No team news on the OS yet. Probably trying to decide what "injury" to give him.

It's bound to be along the lines of 'picked up a knock in training' didn't train this morning lark and hoping he will be fit for Friday.

marcusopp Why are people questioning the legality of the agreement?
The fact that it's a gentlemens agreement means it's got nothing to do with anyone else.
There are probably a few bits and pieces we're not aware of regarding the contracts etc.
Maybe derby loaned him to us, where he joins properly in the summer??

Other wingers;
Obita (loaned to barnet)
Shepperd (must be fit by now)
Kebe (fit at last!)
Mills (did alright according to most)

On a similar note, why do people keep saying that it's a sign of a good team that we keep winning despite getting outplayed? Hunt said a similar thing in an interview on the OS, and I'd argue that a sign of a good team is one that actually deserves to win a game, and I'd rather the players don't pat themselves on the back after a win like that on Saturday and instead concentrate on improving. Fair enough, if it was a one off poor performance away at somewhere like Donny and we grind out a 1-0 win then I could cope with the overuse of this particular footballing cliche, but we haven't dominated a game for a long time.

Funny, though, if we play well and "deserve to win" four games on the trot
but lose them all, then people say "In that case we didn't deserve to win them."

We haven't dominated many games, partly because we often have two in midfield v three,
but we have a very good defence and get the goals on the break. Sheesh, isn't that what
someone from the Derby crowd has just said about us? That we are much tighter, play it
safe and look for getting a goal from the fewer chances we make?

Seriously though, Winch, 9/12, 10/14 wins, we must be doing SOMETHING right.

I'd agree we have rarely looked "great" and I've said myself we lack any real magic
(but the Kebe goal looked pretty nice!) but 10 wins in 14 can't be a fluke

In answer to the why would we agree to this questions, it would probably have been to get around them charging us a fee (or at least a larger one if he wasn't on a free as it is).

We got him for free, right?

So Derby probably just said "alright, you can have him for free as long as he doesn't play against us", at least that way they covered themselves. Don't forget Cywka has previous with Clough so he wanted rid. And Cywka was in Poland about to sign for another club when he heard about us - offloading him abroad is quite different to letting him go to another club in the division.

edit: What he said ^

- Its a cliche wheeled out removes a bit of heat from interviews and to steer away any criticism
- It is probably actually a sign of a good team as it means, generally, that you are not conceding many whilst under pressure (which you will be if you are not playing that great)

I've been saying this for months.

We're great at getting results but we're really not playing that well at all (depending on your definition I guess). Ultimately I believe that, in the long run, results follow performances. At the moment this team is going some way to prove that wrong, but god it's not pretty to watch.

I think you're summing up of the cliche is pretty spot on though. It's just like using 'it's a tough place to go' in the build up to a game to line up an excuse nice and early.

Scarface Jordan Obita's progress may be going well at Barnet, but surely he'd be much better playing for us in this injury crisis? He can't be worse than Mills was Saturday. It's not Mill's fault, he's not a winger, it was lucky we were playing the worst team in the league, which is apparently a banana skin.

Agree. It's more accurate to say:

A good team winning when they occasionally play badly is a great team.
A team consistently playing badly and still winning will eventually either have to improve or be found out and start losing.
Consistently losing when you play well, or consistently playing badly and not winning, is the sign of relegation fodder.

Championship is not about playing Barcelona type football its about being efficient like the Germans. QPR were not the most attractive team in the world but where did they finish. This league is all about getting promoted.
I'm happy

Top. Not only because they played more effectively than we are, but because they played better football as well.

Historical side note.

Mills started his career as a left winger.

TheWearing tomasz cywka wont play tonight due to a gentlemen's agreement, not to play against his former club.
Meaning our third choice LB will be playing at LM. HRK, Jobi and Antonio all out.

I presume the agreement was made when he signed, when we weren't so short on wingers.

Hoop, they don't inspire me with confidence. No "magic". I can barely think of a great performance,
but surely a 23-game run where we have more ppg than any team in the league can't be an accident?

I suspect it's more to do with how McDermott sets us up. We win games without being pretty.
We could play a more expansive game and win some/lose some 3-2/2-3 but the way we are
setting out to play is ultra-safe in terms of hard-to-score against but is not so good for
generating chances, and thus our strikers have less goals etc.

If it was the difference between paying a fee and getting him for nothing then it is fully understandable and fair play.

But in theory that should never be the case if Clough really rated him so poorly as he seems to; surely he'd just say good riddance and leave it there. Reading should have said no i guess but i don't understand why Derby would even want him to not play as he's so rubbish anyway....

Do you think that's why I said 'at the moment this team is going some way to prove that wrong'?

I hate the pre match handshake, i hate gentleman's agreement and I especially hate players not celebrating against former clubs. 'sorry didn't mean to just score a worldy against you' oh shut up and celebrate and cause a riot, it's funny. Half of the fun is having former players returning, giving them a ton of stick and them scoring.

Cywka we don't want you, we think your rubbish but you can't play against us and prove us wrong. Garbage.

Curo cupping the ears >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> sinclair being lifted up hands in the air to Chelsea fans saying sorry. Absolute crap, stop it NOW.
