kirkrich Can't believe no-one has mentioned this again yet!

21st Jan on the TSI thread:
Terminal Boardom
Ideal Well I tell you what, it's been a good run.
We had fun. I expect this board to be full of new users within a few months, if this "russian splash-the-cash-dash" comes to fruition.
We'll all be forgotten a year down the line.

Royal Lady, middleaged, Spacecruiser, canine enthusiast, and Ideal, seal culler, will all be history.

I can see future users appearing to take our place:
"Zingarevich's Wallet"
"The Marauding Zingarevich"
"Royal Babushka"
"Rubel Royal"
and so on..

It will put a new meaning to plastic. What will the new long lost reading supporters post January 2012 be referred to? And I too have been saying for years that SJM should have been seeking to get additional investment on board for years. But his ego kept getting in the way until his business empire started to crumble spectacularly around him.

Look on the bright side. It would seem that the expansion of the stadium will go ahead after all as will the building of Green Park station.

Boxes in the East stand can piss off.

Nothing kills atmosphere more than having more than one tier.

Just look at the West Stand.

What I mean is, splitting the East stand will kill the little atmosphere we have left.

of course it wouldn't. those in the lower half where the noise currently is would continue as they do. i do though agree that the extra boxes aren't welcome. i want to see three very large single tier stands, especially the east stand. that will be one of, if not the biggest single tier stand in the uk? i think only villa can currently compete with it (east stand is currently 8500 and would be around 14000)

The new stand would have to have boxes to cater for the corporate peeps that the club would need to attract for extra income

What about the Kop? That must be quite large?

I agree, but I don't think we can blame the two-tier layout for the lack of atmosphere in the West Stand. That's down to other reasons.

of course. until liverpool build their new stadium and new kop, and if we expand first, it seems we will have the largest one tier stand at least for a short while.

The Man United fans singing 'we've got one stand bigger than your ground' was quite funny.

Plans already being discussed about starting stage 1 of the expansion next summer, whether we stay in the Premiership or not. East Stand will be first apparently. TSI know we sold out every week in the Premier League for the 2 seasons we were there and don't want to turn fans/money away :!:

FWIW, the FSF brought along an example of safe standing seating with the barriers at the front to the Madejski Stadium and the club embraced the idea. I mentioned it elsewhere some months ago but can't think where to go and find it for you. A lot of clubs have shown an interest in it as well. It will happen, it's gathering a lot of support thanks to Germany and now Scotland getting the nod to trial it, so it's just when now and not if.

People can say no all they like to this, but clubs want to cater for all fans. There's nothing wrong with the top half of a stand, or a couple of stands becoming safe-standing. That way you don't block anyone's view below you and everyone gets what they want. I for one can't wait for it to happen, whether it be 5 or another 10 years time.
