Jem or Ledge?

by Archie's penalty » 25 Feb 2012 12:02

After being laughed at on the other thread thought I'd ask who is better between the two players, which of the two is more likely to 'make it' if we make it up?

I reckon Karacan due to his energy, his age and his ability to break up attacks.

Think Ledge has got another couple of years in him tops. What do you think?

Both will be good enough if they play along side someone better. Together they are not good enough.

I would bring in another CM and play L,wood

And use Jem as a sub and move Tabb on.

For taking us forward its Jem, mainly because he is younger, but right now there is nothing wrong with playing both of them. We seem to be doing alright at the moment, and I think that we miss them if one of them are out injured.

Right now Ledge>Karacan>>>>>>>>>>>>>another CM we have.

Obviously Karacan is the future for our midfield, but right now we look a little lost whenever we don't have the big man in the middle.

Different roles in similar positions really. Both bring something different to the team. The right player next to either of them, or the right player ahead of both of them and they'll be fine.

karacan is the better of the two. no question. his fitness is also far greater than leigertwood, and many of the rest of the first team as well.

This pretty much - I'd be happier with Ledge-Tabb than Jem-Tabb in the centre. But I think with a different CM Jem could really thrive (not that he isn't at the mo).

That's a difficult one... JK seems to have more energy possibly due to the fact he's so much younger, but, that said he's not as good as a holding MF as Ledge, he harrasses and wins the tackle/forces the other player into a mistake but when he gets the ball there is an element of 'hoofball' sometimes. Whereas Ledge seems more relaxed on the ball although he does seem to blow hot & cold form-wise. JK is steadier in that dept, I guess that's where Ledges experience wins him points in my eyes. I will abstain from voting on this one...sorry

For me, it's Leigertwood all day long. Karacan, for all his energy, I don't believe has much of a footballing brain. All he can see is a few yards around him. Ledge makes the difficult, nasty, dirty midfield work look pretty easy. Jem makes it look like he doesn't know how to slow the game down or pick a pass out longer than 10 yards.

I'll give Jem his credit that he's the first academy central midfielder (Gylfi aside) to call the position his own. Much kudos for that, but I think he's reached his plateau. I think Leigertwood would be able to hold his own in the Prem due to his experience more than any other reason. I'm yet to be convinced the Jem can run a midfield and boss it. Sure, he can run all day long, but you need more than that in the long run.

(Case in point, he tried a thru ball for Roberts against Burnley. It zoomed away for a goal kick and Roberts was yards away from the 18 yard line...he should be better than that imo.)

I do believe that if we did get promoted (with the Zingarevich money) neither of them will be in our centre midfield in two seasons time. Take your pick which.

Several times I've been told by away fans that they wish they had Legs playing for them. I don't think I've ever heard that said about Jem.

Both are very good players, but whilst Jem maybe has more energy (not that Legs is lacking in energy), he doesn't have Legs' brain or technical ability.

I don't think Tabb is as far off Jem as people make out either for that matter.

Legs looks calmer and more in control and aware. Jem looks like he runs around like a headless chicken. I don't think there's a lot between them in actual quality though.

with respect i think that only highlights how little you get to watch karacan in the flesh. he is by far our fittest player. yes he runs and he runs, but he is far from headless. he'll snap at their heels and closes the opposition down all game long, and try and support the attack. he is a key player.

i would argue he is the better of the two, but together they are very effective and stifle the oppositions midfield.

I said he looks like he runs around a headless chicken, not he runs around like a headless chicken. Those two statements are quite different.

Edited for Moo.

Do you sit near the pitch? From the top of the east stand on halfway line karacan is woeful.but when I sit at the front he is phenomenal...

Jem has improved a lot from playing alongside Ledge. His organisational & leadership skills have come on in leaps & bounds as evidenced by the way he ran the midfield in Ledge's absence. TBH I like them together as they provide a solid screen in front of the defence and this fits BMcDs counter attacking gameplan perfectly.

Isn't the best way to judge him via his RESULTS?

Frankly, no. There's 21 other players on the pitch to define a result.

This, like most threads, will not end well.
