Great Starts at Reading

The best start to a Reading career that most fans will remember is probably by Mikele Leigertwood. After he arrived in November 2010 he played his first 18 league games without defeat. However, the first two games he played in were draws.

Jason Roberts has now played in five league games and we have won all of them. I was wondering if any statto knows the most wins that a new player has played in, and when (hopefully) Jason will beat the record?

Jim Leighton had a shocker first match on loan, then was practically unbeaten after that. (did we lose 5-3 or something)

Trying to think if anyone from 85-6 team would have had a good start to their Royals career given the start to the season we had.. Kevin Bremner maybe? Andy Rogers?

Bremner was injured for a chunk of the early part of the season, Baillie wasn't that regular a starter and I'm pretty sure just about the only games Rogers missed were after he swallowed his tongue at Swansea in February.

I'd go for Rogers but I have only my memory to back that up and I don't think he would have gone 18 games without a defeat, especially if you include cup games.

I seem to remember Bryn also had a long unbeaten start, that given the fact it was in 2005/2006 will probably mean a fairly impressive start

Colin Baillie played in the first 7 games in 1985/86. Andy Rogers played in 12 of the 13 wins so that is probably the best in terms of consecutive victories

Except there were 2 LC defeats in the 13 match winning start which scuppers thatah run. Best run of consecutive wins in matches started by a [;ayer is 14 by Dick Spiers from 08/04/67 to 13/09/67 inclusive. He played in 12 consecutive wins, missed the defeat on 06/09/67 and then played in 2 more wins, bnefore appearing ni a draw on 16/09/67.

Ledgedid go unbeaten in 17 consecutive games from his debut, beating the previousl best debutant record of 16 starts by Bryn Gunnarsson, (of course not all these games wer consecutive for the team, they were consecutive for the games the player started in).

So I'll need to dig out most consec wins from debut ....

Martin Butler made a great start away at Preston and our fortunes changed dramatically after his arrival. Jamie Cureton made an instant impact as well scoring on his debut away to Leyton Orient in the League Cup and continued scoring throughout our campaigns in League 1.

I know it's slightly off topic but the debut that had me most excited at the time was Neville Roach scoring against Oldham in April 97. I've always been a big fan of 'home grown' players and I left EP that day giddy with dreams of having seen a future international striker.
