Yesterday's NL scores:

Saturday 3rd March

FA Vase 5th Round Quarter Finals
1 Shortwood United 1-2 Herne Bay att 418
2 Staveley MW 3-0 St Ives Town
3 Peterborough Northern Star 3-4 Dunston UTS aet
4 Bournemouth 0-2 West Auckland Town – away side goals on 89’ & 90’

… pretty poor showing in the Vase again this year, for ‘southern-based’ clubs – only the redoubtable Herne Bay made it through, at the expense of the last Hellenic survivor - and are in the hat with two NE clubs and Staveley from Derbyshire – just outside Chesterfield.

Tonbridge Angels 0-1 Dartford
Truro City 0-2 Eastbourne Borough
Welling 2-1 Bromley

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We stayed in Sluff's league and went back up the M40 again - past Banbury and off the A361 to Woodford Halse - deep in the middle of the middle of nowhere - for:
SOUTH1C Woodford Utd 0-2 Biggleswade Town att 71 - hard to see how on earth they can sustain a STEP04 club here - nice big clubhouse maybe the key?
Game was dire - much as most of the STEP04 games I've been too this season. No real difference in quality between the two sides even though they are a doz or so places apart and the away side are currently in the play-off places.
Very scruffy game on an awful bobbly surface settled by a dodgy pen right on HT and deep in injury time, a wild sliced clearance by the home keeper who rushed out of his area - flew straight to a midfielder who, chanced his luck, hit it first time and managed to find the empty net from about 25 yds.
Mercifully we've only got two 'local-ish' grounds between us to 'complete' the three Southern League divisions - admittedly this excludes about a doz. clubs over 2 hrs away and these often get 'restructured' in/out each season anyway - so I'm in no rush to tick them. 8)
These longer trips that we have to make a special effort for, are mostly around Brum (apart from St Neots, Taunton and Bideford) .
St Neots only drew yesterday so Slough's game Away at Barton on Tues could see them go back level, with the vouch match against St Neots next Sat.
Interesting about Woodford, they are Slough's last away game of the season which means that some Slough fans will be doing their annual charity walk there from Sluff - 65 miles over 3 days, can only hope that there is something to celebrate at the end of it...
Windsor 5-0 Sandhurst Town
A return to form after a spell of games where we have been anything but convincing. Amazing what 1 goal can do for confidence. Ryan O'Toole has been looking a shadow of his former self but yesterday notched a sublime hat-trick. Goals also from Michael Chennells and a first senior goal for George Gould - son of ICC cricket umpire Ian Gould. And to think that we get more Under 16s at games than some clubs get as a full attendance. Plus the sun shone and I was able to enjoy a couple of pints of real ale. Happy daze 8)
Next up Dorking who, by all accounts, were a total shambles at Camberley. Considering they were the first club to beat us this season and we have not kept more than 2 clean sheets in a row, anything can happen.
I thought the 2nd half was some of Windsor's best football of the season. After the 1st half that was a very pleasant surprise.
um
either the Bakerloo or the Jubilee. I was travelling from Padders to Green Park.
I'm going to have to give this some thought as to which it was actually
gut instinct tells me it was the Bakerloo but I'm afraid I've got nothing to pin that to - I don't remember anything else about either journey.
a quick check shows them away at Dorking, reached from Waterloo - and knowing that doesn't help one bit.
I don't travel on the Jubilee Line all that often but the thing that marks it out for me is the sound of the gears as it brakes into a station, ie you hear the higher pitch of the engine as it goes down a gear just before coming to a halt.
Just in case it jogs your memory, like.
had my headphones in
let me see
Ok I've got it. I had a seat on the Bakerloo and I was halfway down the corridor, which seems about right as this chap was by the door in front of me and to the left. whereas on the Jubilee I was perched on one of the sort of benches right by the door, and I'm not sure I'd ahve looked all the way down to the next door on the opposite side from there. it makes sense to me anyway.
so the Bakerloo. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
..actually thought I was a bit remiss there - didn't give the score at FT :shock:
.... it was 1-1 btw :wink:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... some more 'local' scores - not really had my 'eye on the ball' quite as much this midweek what with there being a game at The MadStad and my 'darling daughter' bringing home a f£(k!ng cold from School :evil:

.. so this Tue ...

Sandhurst were thumped 1-7 at home by South Park
Farnham W2-1 v Hanworth Villa - to ease their relegation worries slightly

in the SOUTHERN League (Central)
Sluff W3-0 at Barton and are level on points with St Neots but have played a game more
Fleet D3-3 with AFC Hayes
Marlow lost 2-3 @ Northwood.

in the South & West division -
Abingdon Utd lost 0-2 @ Halesowen.

in the HELLENIC Premier some shocks about:
Abingdon T 1-3 Wokingham & Emm
Bracknell 2-0 Thame Utd :D - 'Robins now only 1 pt behind the 'BlanketBoys' (Witney) and 4 adrfit of Fairford.
RTFC 2-2 Henley Town - no attendance figure given?

The other B&B Senior Trophy S-F was played at Summerleaze with Binfield beating the hosts (Holyport) 7-6 on pens (after a 3-3 draw)

FINAL venue tbc on Tuesday 17th April Abingdon Town v Binfield.

WESSEX One Tadley lost 2-3 H v Pewsey Vale

.... Last but by no means etc etc CONF South:

'stoke beaten 0-2 @ the Camrose by Tonbridge Angels
Farnboro 1-0 Eastbourne Boro winner on 91'
Bromley 1-1 Staines - 'Massive's' equalizer on 91'

random...Fleetwood go 8 points clear tonight in the Conf. and will probably be our next league addition.

Remember watching them (at their Highbury) less than ten years ago playing (somebody like) Blackpool Mechanics in the NW Counties League.

Four Of Clubs Highmoor Ibis v Didcot Town Res

A mouthwatering clash. The Ibis will be hungry for a result in that one. I'm sure it'll be tasty off the pitch too, given the reputation of the Didcot Town (Reserves) away travel mob. It'll be fucking carnage if Highmoor get a result.

In the CCL, one to watch out for is RPV v Hanworth Villa. RPV have won 8 and drawn 2 of their last 10 whereas HV have had some very strange results going against them. Every game for hereonin is a must win for Windsor. All we can hope for is that Guildford City have a late season panic attack. Banstead away will not be easy as they are fighting for their survival at this level. I will be very surprised if they are as bad as they were when we trounced them 11-0.
