Mansfield Town.

It might explain why it took me so long to get into football.

Yes - wasn't Mansfield the furthest football ground from a train station (when it was a FL club)?

Professionally, it would have been Palace otherwise, Tooting & Mitcham Utd. Sandy Lane was less than 5 minutes walk from where I used to live.

Place of Birth = Battle Hopsital - RFC
Brung up 0-11 - Priestwood 2 then Harmanswater - so Binfield/Bracknell Town - not sure 'Braybrooke' from the E.Berks existed back then :?
Formative 11-18 - Broadstairs/Ramsgit - so Ramsgate - went regularly mid 80s - at that time tended to look out for Palarse with RFC a close 2nd
18-> back in the 'ding - so exlusively RFC all the way to my current dotage! 8)

I believe it was the largest town in England without a railway station.

I think they have one now- but the nearest stations were either Nottingham or Alfreton. At least 12 miles.

Compound that with it being an absolute shite hole...strangely I never go back.

I was brought up in the Whitchurch hood, so a pretty 50/50 split between Reading and Saints...

Royal With Cheese My kids would have to support

Been to any games? I think we've talked about it before but I'd really like to see some football over there sometime. Curiosity mainly.

Oh yes. I go to a few games a year. It's around Blue Square Premier level.

You're not missing anything to be honest. There's not much banter as rival fans very much keep themselves to themselves (apart from the likes of Linfield/Glentoran Portadown/Gleanvon).

On the upside, it's cheap (£10) and with little exceptions you can pay on the day.

Whyteleafe FC if we're going into the depths of the Ryman South, but otherwise Crystal Palace.
