Looks like the wheels have come off for Charlton two big home defeats. They have been riding there luck for a while now.

charlton have 30 points still to play for and can reach 108 - but i think we know they aren't going to.

the swine can still match it, but it's a big ask.

Until it's mathematically impossible then it's not over, but it's looking unlikely. Interesting reading this all back and the people who were worried in October and November. Seriously, it is really good and interesting to track it from then, but to be worried when there are still 6 months of football to be played is stupid! February is the time to be really taking a good look to see who is close and if there's anybody on a par with our points at that stage then be worried.

Hopefully this time next week it will all be over for another year and the record will be safe once more.

Franchise FC Just had a quick look at our 2005/06 record after 36 games, to compare to Charlton. We had 86 - they have 78.

What I did notice was that the team in 7th had 53 - 33 points behind with 10 games left.

iirc we were "promoted" that season when we beat Southampton on 10th Feb - 13 games to go.

You don't. It was Sheffield United.

Nope, Mr A is right. After we beat Soton on the 10th Feb we had 82 points. Watford finished in third with 81 points. So technically that was the game that put us over the line for promotion.

It's a retrospective twist on the stats - when we moved to 82 points, other teams could still have surpassed 82 points, they just didn't.

Leicester was the promotion moment....beating Derby 5-0 was the Championship moment....

And Charlton can now no longer beat the record. :D

Must win all 9 games left to equal it. 8)

And so, we're left with Charlton.

And they can only match 106.

Given their current form I'd be surprised if they reached 100.

Whatever was I worried about ?

Just goes to show, no point in even thinking about it until February. And no point starting to worry until end of March.

I'm going to stick my neck out now and say that Charlton won't equal our record.

That's it for another season!

That'll do it then - no idea why I was concerned.
