If you haven't been there before, the spectator facilities are a joy to behold.

The Spectrum is a Council Owned leisure centre on the A25 in Guildford. It is, first and foremost an athletics stadium and the athletics takes precedence over everything else. Guildford City are unfortunate to have to play there but the local council are complete arsewipes when it comes to helping the club find land for a ground of their own. GCFC hate playing there and because of ground grading regulations, faled to gain promotion last season. Chertsey Town took their place in Step 4 instead.

Tory local council no doubt

... natch - increased to a huuuge maj at the last round in 2011 - though the few remaining LibDems have a some seats left on the Council - not surprisingly the 'urban' wards mostly - got two Lab seats now too for the first time in yonks I'd suspect?

... and - "did you know?" - Guildford isn't a City - much like 'our' (well - 'a lots of us') proud locale has been given the knock back regularly when applying for status. S'pose I've always thought of it as one - as you do - cos its got a Cathedral.
.... then again - quite topically- so's St Asaph!

Not sure why the Football club have 'City' in their name now - think they started using it as long ago as 1927 - then went belly up after a merger with Dorking in 74? :?

Fairly sure they only renamed themselves back to 'City' in the last few years following their de-merger from Godalming.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anywhose - here's tomorrow's 'local' NL programme:-
Saturday 17th March
FA Trophy Semi Final 2nd Leg
Wealdstone v Newport County – all ticket
Basingstoke v Bromley
Dartford v Havant and W
Eastleigh v Dover
Farnborough v Weston-S-Mare
Hampton & Richmond v Maidenhead Utd
Salisbury v Boreham Wood
Staines Town v Eastbourne Borough
Sutton Utd v Chelmsford
Thurrock v Dorchester
Tonbridge Angels v Truro City
Woking v Welling
ISTH1S
Hythe Town v Godalming Town
SOUTHP
Chesham United v Bedford Town
SOUTH1C
AFC Hayes v Aylesbury
Barton Rovers v Burnham - Plan A for us is this one - will bring completion of this division a step nearer, with only three fairly long-distance one's left to 'tick'. Home club play in the village of Barton-le-Clay located between Luton and Bedford - nice. :|
Bedworth United v Marlow
Chalfont St. Peter v Uxbridge
Chertsey Town v St. Neots Town
Fleet Town v Daventry Town
Leighton Town v Beaconsfield SYCOB
Slough Town v Biggleswade Town - put 'the mockers' on Sluff re their game vs NGU in midweek would have taken back top spot but they contrived to lose 0-2 in front of nearly 300 :?
Woodford United v Ashford Town (Middx)
SOUTH1S&W
Bideford v Didcot Town - tough one at the leaders
Clevedon Town v Abingdon United
Hungerford Town v Taunton Town
Paulton Rovers v North Leigh
Thatcham Town v Cinderford Town
CCLP
Badshot Lea v Camberley Town
Colliers Wood United v Mole Valley SCR
Croydon v Molesey
Dorking v Raynes Park Vale
Epsom & Ewell v Ash United
Guildford City v Egham Town
Hanworth Villa v Banstead Athletic
Sandhurst Town v Farnham Town - Fizzers having gone 32 league games w/o a draw have just drawn two on the bounce. Farnham having had a terrible Dec/Jan have picked up slightly of late.
South Park v Chessington & Hook United
Wembley v Horley Town
Windsor v Cove - should rack up a few goals vs the leakiest defence in the division - but Cove do usually score themselves - so could be aggregate double figures here? :wink: .
CCL1
Bedfont Sports v Farleigh Rovers
CB Hounslow United v Hartley Wintney
Guernsey v Bookham (3.00 p.m.)
Sheerwater v Frimley Green
Spelthorne Sports v Cobham
Staines Lammas v Warlingham
Westfield v Knaphill
Worcester Park v South Kilburn
HELLP
Abingdon Town v Kidlington
Binfield v Highworth Town - 'Moles' had a pretty up and down week - walloped Shrivvy 6-1 on Monday then got gubbed 3-0 @ Shortwood on Thursday - nice night for a trip to the upper wilds of Nailsworth
Flackwell Heath v Bracknell Town - real long-shot for a shock - Flackwell have slumped badly of late losing 4 in 6 - Robins lost the home game 1-8 though.
Henley Town v Ascot United
Holyport v Thame United
Oxford City Nomads v Cheltenham Saracens
Shortwood United v Slimbridge
Wantage Town v Ardley United
Wokingham & Emmbrook v Fairford Town - 'Sumas' on a tidy run won 5 in 6 - should maintain that against strugglers
HELL1E
Lambourn Sports v Finchampstead
Newbury v Chalfont Wasps
Rayners Lane v Highmoor Ibis
Woodley Town v Letcombe
Hellenic Supplementary Challenge Cup R3
14:30 KO Brimscombe & Thrupp v Reading Town - nice trip up beyond Sw!n£don/Cirencester to the outskirts of Stroud for Bartley's mob. Ground is a bit of a gem apparently - considered this one but a) it's the 'Losers' Cup and b) its an earlier KO as B&T don't have floodlights. Still, there's a good chance of some Silverware in another midly dissappointing season for RTFC. They are the highest ranked side in the last 16; only Holyport and Cheltenham Sarries still in from the Prem. From Div One I'd expect Highmoor/IBIS, Newbury or Tytherington to be good outsiders. Certainly some very pleasant Div One grounds to visit should RTFC get through and are handed another away tie.
WESSP
Winchester City v Fareham Town
WESS1
Fleet Spurs v Pewsey Vale
Petersfield Town v Tadley Calleva
Verwood Town v Whitchurch United
Cove are the worst side I have seen this season. Also, probably Windsor's most complete performance as well. The 7-1 win at Cove was brutal but should have been more. Hoping for another crowd in excess of 250 tomorrow.
SOUTH1C
Barton Rovers 4-2 Burnham
- as planned - got here - bit of bother through Luton - main route through onto the A6 closed - big diversions around the town centre - plus of course had to work our way round the M4 problems late PM on the way home - managed it via M40, Lewknor, Watlington Caversham etc - made all the easier listening to a very upbeat Radio Baaarks and the news from Oakwell. :D :D :D
In spite of the despondent outlook I gave for this fixture - it was actually a thoroughly entertaining game in surprisingly rural surroundings - crowd of only 58 = no idea how they can sustain a side at this level - they may yet make a late run for the Play Offs. Burnham competed well but left it too late to try a more adventurous approach which may have snatched a point.
Bedworth United 3-2 Marlow
Chalfont St. Peter 0-1 Uxbridge
Chertsey Town 0-2 St. Neots Town
Fleet Town 1-3 Daventry Town
Epsom & Ewell 0-2 Ash United
Guildford City 1-3 Egham Town
Wembley 2-1 Horley Town
Windsor 7-0 Cove – att 224
CCL1
Bedfont Sports 6-1 Farleigh Rovers
CB Hounslow United 1-3 Hartley Wintney
Guernsey 7-0 Bookham - may even have been Guernsey’s 2nd string; their 1sts were making up the significant numbers in the Annual Channel Islands Muratti Shield/Cup semi Final win over Alderney (also 7-0)
Sheerwater 3-5 Frimley Green
Spelthorne Sports 3-1 Cobham
Staines Lammas 1-2 Warlingham
Westfield 3-1 Knaphill
As you point out, 224 at Stag Meadow for what might be seen as a relatively unimportant end of season game (even the most optimistic Windsor fans can't see us catching Guildford) - next highest crowd was Guildford's home match against Egham (1st v 3rd)... Their gate? A pathetic 68...
... minor pendant alert :? - Guernsey in Div One topped the 1000 as they have done at nearly all their home games this season - but who else would you watch on Guernsey?
However, there was just over 100 at the 'Woking' derby also down in Div One between Westfield and Knaphill. :wink:
... but as you rightly say Guildford got the next highest in the Premier.
A 9 point gap to City with 7 games left, does look a tall order but the cracks could be showing if Guildford lost to Egham and only just shaved past Cambo last week. Trouble is Windsor would have to win the lot to have a chance now.
They close the season with three tricky away games games; sandwiching the home game vs Guildford on 21st April too - though CWU will be a slightly easier proposition now you aren't facing them on their home 'swamp'.
Could be a nice big finale at Krooner Pk on the 28th. 8)
Well, CTFC have big plans for the last day of the season. To be fair, Guildford were far better than Camberley last Tuesday but I can still hear the whinging in my ears. Classless and arrogant bunch of twats. But if someone had offered 2nd spot and a cup semi final at the start of this season, I would have taken it. The best thing about Saturday was that the goal difference reduced from +10 to +1 in Guildford's favour.
tomorrow's non-league games with 'local' interest:
Saturday 24th March
CONFS
Boreham Wood v Eastleigh
Bromley v Farnborough
Chelmsford v Basingstoke
Dorchester v Dartford
Dover v Staines Town
Eastbourne Borough v Woking
Havant and W v Tonbridge Angels
Maidenhead Utd v Salisbury
Truro City v Thurrock
Welling v Sutton Utd
Weston-S-Mare v Hampton & Richmond
ISTH1S
Godalming Town v Walton & Hersham
SOUTHP
Swindon Supermarine v Chesham United
SOUTH1C
Ashford Town (Middx) v Slough Town
Aylesbury v Fleet Town
Beaconsfield SYCOB v Rugby Town
Biggleswade Town v AFC Hayes
Burnham v Bedworth United
Daventry Town v Chalfont St. Peter
Marlow v Chertsey Town
St. Neots Town v Bedfont Town
Uxbridge v Woodford United
SOUTH1S&W
Abingdon United v Yate Town
Didcot Town v Paulton Rovers
Mangotsfield United v Hungerford Town
Tiverton Town v Thatcham Town
CCLP
Camberley Town v Sandhurst Town
Chessington & Hook United v Banstead Athletic
Colliers Wood United v Wembley
(at Banstead Athletic FC)
Croydon v South Park
Dorking v Horley Town
Farnham Town v Guildford City
Hanworth Villa v Mole Valley SCR
Raynes Park Vale v Egham Town
Windsor v Badshot Lea
CCL1
Cobham v Bookham
Feltham v Spelthorne Sports
Frimley Green v Farleigh Rovers
Guernsey v Bedfont Sports - 1st v 2nd - Home win would formally seal the title putting Guernsey 6 pts ahead with two to play but this is Sports penultimate fixture.
Knaphill v CB Hounslow United
South Kilburn v Staines Lammas
Warlingham v Eversley @ Whyteleafe FC
Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup – 3rd Round
Westfield v Hartley Wintney
HELLP
Ardley United v Binfield
Ascot United v Wokingham & Emmbrook
Bracknell Town ## v Shortwood United
Cheltenham Saracens v Abingdon Town
Fairford Town v Witney Town
Henley Town v Holyport
Kidlington v Slimbridge
Reading Town v Flackwell Heath – watched the ‘Heathens’ on Tue night; they’ve picked up Couch on 'dual registration' from near neighbours Marlow – he’s scored bags of goals at STEP04 – have another lad Thompson (also on dual reg. from Burnham) up front whose very clever on the ball, as well as the obligatory ‘big lad’ up there with them (Jordan). They also have another prolific scorer (Cannon) who wasn’t available on Tue – not sure why . Could be a good game if RTFC are on form too.
Shrivenham v Wantage Town
–## ‘Robins’ now ONLY 1 pt adrift of Witney. Notwithstanding any ground grading issues preventing promotion from Div One – in their 5 remaining games they’ll need to make up between 6-9 points on those above them to get close to safety from the drop.
As mentioned before, usually its four down and two up from each of Div One West & East – can see 2 coming up from East (Highmoor probably and Newbury) but more than likely only one from the West (Tytherington already champs I think) …. and that is somewhat dependent upon a club getting lights installed in rural ‘Glawsesestershire.’
Coupled with there being no likely candidates (other than tomorrow’s visitors to Larges Lane who have an outside chance due to games in hand) to go up to the Southern League, out of the Premier, then it could well be only two dropping down this season. Not all that sure about STEP04 clubs coming down – Marlow are nailed on to finish bottom of the Central section so are very likely to be in Hellenic next season rather than South Mids.
As for the South & West section Diddy are safe this time round and Abingdon Utd probably have enough points not to worry about Stourport who are miles adrift last and host the runaway leaders Bideford tomorrow. Lose that, as is likely, and they’d have to make up 15 points in 5 games!
HELL1E
Finchampstead v Letcombe
Highmoor Ibis v Lambourn Sports
WESSP
Alton Town v Laverstock & Ford
Winchester City v Horndean
WESS1
Andover New Street v Stockbridge
Pewsey Vale v East Cowes Victoria
Tadley Calleva v Ringwood Town
Whitchurch United v Fleet Spurs
