You did, in terms of promotion, which I'm sure is what Mags was getting at in the context of this thread.

If you want to predict only the West Ham game, why not do it on the appropriate thread. :|

Because I was asked.

I expected WHU to win at Pboro (but I thought an even bigger win) but now my bottle has almost completely gone.

Dunno, but I think if either side wins they'll get auto.

Think WHU will win in the POs if they end up there.

My heart says I think if we lose at WHU we might spend another season in this league
but the table says we are a much better side than those chasing.

Prediction 1-1, just to keep the tension going.

Agree with you now. 100%.

I don't think Sat is the be all and end all if we lose, but we will have to see off Leeds as they are at Barnsley later on on same day which looks a nailed on away win.

Their next 2 games after that are Birmingham and Brighton at home which are both games where points can be dropped.

I still think if we are within a couple of points of them going into our last 2 home games we have a real chance.

Maguire
The thread's called "Next six games". Why do what everyone else on the thread is doing and predict the next six games/if we'll go up rather than say "IF we lose then it'll be HARDER to get AUTO" and such like?

I saw a bus yesterday. It said "Heinz" on it.

I went on board. Not a bean in sight.

Or perhaps you simply don't have the courage of your complete and utter guesswork?

Madame Maguire is hard of hearing.

I believe, if we win at West Ham we will get automatic promotion.

I believe, if we lose at West Ham. we will NOT get automatic promotion.

I suspect we will need to win at West Ham to get automatic promotion. For the hard of hearing or the limited of intellect, this means that a draw at WHU may well prove insufficient, because we have three extremely tough away games to follow and also home games which could easily go wrong for us.

I also believe we are not as good a set of players as Southampton, West Ham, for sure and probably Birmingham and Cardiff, and maybe Brighton, but we are being managed brilliantly and "punching above our weight." This means that a bad defeat at West Ham, COULD lead to a series of poor results, including defeats at Southampton and Brighton, dropped points at home, and a failure to win at Birmingham, resulting in a dispirited side in the play-offs and a very possible failure there.

I dearly hope I am totally wrong and that (a) we win at West Ham or (b) we draw at West Ham but
get match them for points over the six following games or (c) we drop into the POs, but keep our
confidence, get to Wembley and win 3-0.

And whether I am 100% right or 100% wrong is utterly, utterly irrelevant. It's all total guesswork.

West Ham (A) W
Leeds (H) W
Brighton (A) L
Saints (A) D
Forest (H) W
Palace (H) W
Brum (A) D

14 points, finish on 87

I suspect this weekend is critical to chances of promotion - not because it'll affect us, but because it seems to me that BFS is starting to lose it - if we can turn 'em over the fans'll be even more on his back, particularly given his rant earlier in the week, and West Ham could implode.

FWIW I see their run in as:

Reading (H) L
Barnsley (A) W
Birmingham (H) D
Brighton (H) D
Bristol C (A) W
Leicester (A) W
Hull (H) D

12 points, finish on 84

Birmingham game definitely looking like we might need a point to make absolutely certain of auto....

I find the next 7 so hard to call because this upcoming game
can completely change the mind-set of the winning/losing team.

I personally don't see WHU or RFC coming back from a defeat in this one.

West Ham, if they lose, would have to gain 4/5 points in six games meaning, if RFC get just 10 points from 6 games
WH would need at least 14. 4 wins and 2 draws from Barnsley , Bristol, Leicester away; Brighton, Birmingham, Hull at home

Not impossible, but I think they'd fail.

Whereas if WH win I could see them winning 6 of their last 7 and RFC dropping way back and, if RFC lose to Brighton,
I could see them actually "hanging on for third" and going into the POs with their confidence battered.

I think if we COULD win at WH (and I don't feel it's at all likely) we'll carry on with about 2 ppg for the last six
probably winning the three home games Leeds, Forest, Palace, and WLD in the 3 away games

If it's a draw, who the hell knows, first to crack etc, but I think it's at least 90% likely that the winner
(if there is one) will quickly open up a gap between 2nd and 3rd.

Snowball essentially whoever wins goes up automatically

With respect, I think this is the general opinion of most RFC/WHU/general football fans.

Point is, it's a bit of fun to try and guess the next 6/7 games. Obviously it's not a science otherwise everyone would guess the same.

So make a call on the game then let that result influence your decisions for the next few games. After all, it's all about form, right?

That is dozy, Pep. I'll make a prediction for the last six games AFTER the 7th-last game.

It's my opinion that the West Ham game is too-close AND "too-big" to call. I can imagine
a professional 1-0 or 2-0 win there, but it's easy to imagine a 3-0 drubbing also, and that's
why trying to guess what comes AFTER that game is just plain silly.

I DISAGREE that "it's all about form". Form is about TRENDS, tendencies etc, but when it comes down to two sides
both in reasonable form, and playing an extremely tense "promotion decider", form becomes a lot less relevant.

In 2012 West Ham are undefeated in 11 games and have had just one defeat in 15 league games this year

RFC have had just one defeat in their last 12 (same as WHU), so it really, REALLY is on a knife-edge.

A bit of luck or bad luck, one moment of magic or a bad decision and it's possible the better side could lose.

So all this "predicting" is pure guesswork.
