His stock is rising by the game. All that fuss about the Josh bloke from Chelsea as the next big thing. Sig is keeping him sat on the bench.

He's an amazing talent. He's more than outgrown Reading. A big move awaits him this summer, and a sizeable sell-on fee for Reading.

Can't see this link on the thread although it is a bit old - Inter and Juve interested in Gylfi

John Motson's reaction after Gylfi scored is brilliant;

"Siggurdsson!! What a talent!! How did Reading get him!? How did they get £7M for him!? why did Hoffenheim let him go out on loan!?"

For a couple of seasons I've been having a Sig Vs Tarrabt argument with a QPR m8 of mine, which I thought was over untill Saturday when he decided to pipe up about Adel again.. I'm pretty sure he would have been sitting at home watching the Spurs game yesterday though, so I had a hideously smug smile on my face courtesy of the Sig

Not really. We signed him as a 16 year old. We beat (I think) Ipswhich and perhaps Preston to get him here.

We were his finishing school I guess, but I don't really count players like him as true academy products.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer though. He should be quite sought after.

How much of his awesomeness is our academy polishing what he already had, or just his own mind set we'll never know. Don't know what the youth coaching is like in Iceland, but they do seem to produce more than their fair share of decent players.

I thought I heard him say that but I refused to believe it; what a pretentious prick. Do not like Motty as much as I did before this

Think he meant "only" £7m tbf - and I don't think he meant the first one in a derogatory way either, just wondered how we stumbled upon such a gem. He's getting on a bit old Motty, cut him some slack :wink:

I thought that was Victor Illugson got from under the noses of Ipswich and Preston? Seem to remember him being more highly rated than Gylfi at the time.

Have to wonder why he isn't playing for his parent side in Germany on the form he's showing at Swansea.

Illugason

"At first I had my heart set on joining Ipswich because they have such good training facilities for youngsters, but in the end I decided to join Reading because my best friend [Gylfi Sigurdsson] joined last year, while two other Icelandic internationals are at the club."

Sigurdsson had trials with PNE and Arsenal apparently

Congratulations to Gylfi for being voted the Premier League player of the month for March. Well deserved.
