RoyalBlue

namroyal Just in case anyone was in any doubt as to whether Hunt was onside.... here's the proof:

Thing is, his front foot is blocked in this picture and if that's past the last defender (which it looks like it could be) then it's offside as its a part of his body that can play the ball. Admittedly its difficult and its easier to go by the main body of the player

All these pictures prove absolutely nothing either way. Unless you/the camera are stood looking over the shoulder of the asst ref (linesman) and, assuming he is in line with the 2nd defender, then you can't really judge whether a player is offside or not.

Watching it 'live' on tv muy immediate reaction was to laugh because I thought we had got the benefit of a really dodgy decision. Having then watched the replays, my feeling is that Hunt wasn't offside but once again the camera wasn't in line with the lino and 2nd defender so couldn't state so conclusively.

To finally put this one to bed.....I was sat in the Alpari Upper with my lad, dead in line....He was onside, as all the Shammers sat around me were concurring at the time, they were all blaming their defence for standing and watching.

Stiffling the screams of a seven year old is not easy once...but four times

Special shout to my old man who not only predicted 2-4, but backed it up with a bet....100-1.

A friend of mine reckons he had the 2-4 100/1 bet as well!

The best bit is Hunt's 'backheel' was completely unintentional

Oh and anyone know what happened to the lady who took a tumble on the way out towards the station? Possibly tripped on the curb and seemed to have hurt her shoulder quite badly. Looked like she was in capable hands when I walked past.

It existed.

He took some pelters from me before hand, but more than happy to take it back after the game, his text read "Yes,Yes,Yes...can't stop shaking"

Shame he only went with a £1 stake.

Maquisard places that bet for every game and then forget for West Ham.

Didn't that happen last time we won 4-2 as well Maq?

Saw this too.

Albeit in pain, she looked like she was being looked after by the Police [who seemed to all have a decent humour to them]

Can't agree with you there. Friday's Legacy's photo is as conclusive as the family laughing together at the end of a 1980's American TV 'comedy' show.

Wonder if it's the same woman who was hit by a wayward Karacan shot during the warm up??!! She was down for the count... Btw no need to pray for her, stewards saw that she was OK!

Agreed. The two photos combined are about as conclusive as you can possibly get short of a photo of a trio of West Ham defenders sitting on the goal line.

And in saying so, you both prove my point.

'About as conclusive' so not conclusive. In the same way, due to the effect of angles, tv replays are rarely if ever conclusive. Even when two players seem to be in line with a line on the pitch or superimposed on the picture by the tv company. Only if the camera was absolutely in line with a marked line on the pitch could you be completely sure. It is for that very reason that cameras taking the photo finish pictures in athletics are positioned so carefully.

So the Assistant Ref, if doing his job correctly should be well positioned to judge, as should anyone stood 180 degrees behind him/her. Others can have a 'view' in both respects of the word but not be 100% reliable. I've run the line quite a few times and know from my own experience that my view has been somewhat different from players and spectators who aren't properly positioned in line with that second defender. I've also shadowed my son when he has run the line and seen the same thing.

Having seen both the replay and the photos I would agree that from those Hunt looks onside and probably was but it would be difficult to argue with the Asst Ref had he adjudged otherwise.

making yourself look stupid. Those photos are utterly conclusive. It would be stupid to criticise the lino if he got it wrong given he doesn't have the benefit of freeze frames, slow mo and repeat viewings. Doesn't mean he wouldn't have been wrong for giving offside if he had.

Well remembered. She was in obvious pain but was talking and looked a trifle embarrassed with all the commotion. Hope she is ok.

Well said.

We could have understood the lino getting it wrong in this instance but the freeze frame photo (produced by FL) does prove (literally) that the lino was right (from his good position presumably) and that he was onside.

A freeze-frame photo doesn't have to be taken in line - it's not the Olympics 100m Final.
