Four Of Clubs Oh and a minor 'pendantic' 8) point in response to something G.Royal wrote in the quote above – only mention it cos it ruffled my Anorak Lining  – Guernsey have lost a proper league game at home THIS season : 2-3 to Eversley – though there was a disproportionate amount of bleating on CCL Fans Focus about this reverse: probably in response to a few 'longer-toothed' CCL fans taking the p!ss! I suspect the Windsor lads have come up against the same 'crew' !
... besides - Its barely made a mark on their otherwise superb record. [/i]

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I think was off the island at the time, and looking back at the table I assumed the one loss was the forfeited game from playing an ineligible player.

Four Of Clubs I don’t think there is much to choose between the bottom two-thirds of the CCL Premier and the top half of Div One – not that I’ve seen all that much of either division this season. There’ll also be a fair few ‘whipping boys’ about - as there were for Guernsey this season – witness a couple of double-figure wins in the top division: which really shouldn’t be happening at STEP05.

Which games were they then? 8)

Scrappy 2-1 win for Windsor at Horley last night. At the very least we are not simply rolling over and feeling sorry for ourselves. The winner? a 91st minute penalty! It is still up to Guildford to win the title rather than wait for us to hand it on a plate. Now, if Guernsey can do a job on Guildford Friday night and cripple their entire squad...

Croydon agreed to bring forward their league game @ Spectrum to midweek - City duly sneaked a 2-1, much like Windsor the night before - with an even later (93rd minute) winner.

... latest update from CCL F'Focus: Guernsey 1-2 Guildford - about 1/2 hr to go - City 2 up in ten minutes - Guernsey have just pegged one back - crown 1700 ish.

Update : 2-2 now in ET

Terminal Boardom I wish that I could be over in Guernsey to see your cup tie with Guildford. Don't expect them to be anything other than physical, argumentative, moaning, play acting or cynical. They are the most disliked club in the CCL and all because of their attitude. If they concentrated more on the football, they would be much more popular.

Just got home from the match, and it was just like you said. I think every one of their players went down with 'cramp' at some point. Numerous reckless challenges were flying in when we went ahead in extra time, and they realistically could have been down to 8 or 9 men. Their two goals were carbon copies of each other, the captain scoring two free kicks from similar positions. They did look dangerous but we dominated throughout, just didn't take our chances early on otherwise it could and should have been job done over 90 minutes. However we showed our superior fitness in extra time, which in my opinion is the reason we've dominated so many games this season.

Also, has anyone who has seen Guildford play noticed the atrociously short shorts of their number 2? Could barely see them from under his shirt, looked like he was playing in his budgie-smugglers. :D

ISTH1S
Whitehawk 1-1 Godalming Town

SOUTHP
Chesham United 2-1 AFC Totton
SOUTH1C
Ashford Town (Middx) 0-0 Marlow
Aylesbury 0-1 Biggleswade Town
Burnham 1-2 Beaconsfield SYCOB
Chertsey Town 1-0 Bedworth United
Rugby Town 3-3 Fleet Town
Slough Town 1-1 Chalfont St. Peter
St. Neots Town 0-0 Uxbridge
SOUTH1S&W
Didcot Town 0-2 Tiverton Town
Hungerford Town 1-2 Gosport Borough
North Leigh 2-1 Wimborne Town
Sholing 2-2 Thatcham Town
Stourport Swifts 4-3 Abingdon United

CCLP
Ash United 1-2 Egham Town
Camberley Town 0-2 South Park
Epsom & Ewell 0-1 Chessington & Hook United
Hanworth Villa 0-2 Molesey
Horley Town 1-0 Raynes Park Vale
Mole Valley SCR 0-2 Farnham Town
Wembley 1-1 Dorking - not a great start as a 'technical advisor' for El Tel! :?
CCL1
Bedfont Sports 1-1 Staines Lammas
Bookham 2-1 Spelthorne Sports
CB Hounslow United 2-0 Cobham
Eversley 3-2 Sheerwater
Feltham 1-2 Farleigh Rovers
Hartley Wintney 2-2 Warlingham
Worcester Park 1-1 Westfield

HELLP
Abingdon Town 1-0 Wantage Town
Ascot United 3-4 Bracknell Town
Binfield 2-2 Flackwell Heath
Cheltenham Saracens 3-0 Henley Town
Oxford City Nomads 7-1 Ardley United - long time leaders Ardley are imploding - no chance of promotion anyway nor have Nomads so Shortwood, who have applied, have seven matches left to make themselves eligible on the field. 2nd place might do it which is very achievable but it can be a bit of a grading lottery and the Points Per Game indicator comes into play across the STEP5 leagues (I think its something like 12 vaguely southern-based leagues going for a possible 8 places at STEP04) To have a good chance they need to win as many of their remaining games as they can. First game in the sequence on Tuesday is (naturally) H v Ardley! None of the other 6 look that problematic so if they've a big squad they could be OK.
Shortwood United 3-0 Witney Town
Slimbridge 1-0 Fairford Town
Thame United 0-1 Reading Town
– sadly looks as if Henley Town will drop back to Div One or possibly even disband :( – they have no funds so are unable to upgrade their ground to the required standard to remain at STEP05 – rumbles that they’ll merge with junior club AFC Henley for next year but not sure which league that would entail. Maybe RSL or OSL? I don’t think AFC have a Senior representative side currently. That means one less relegation place probably – so Bracknell, tantalisingly, may yet have an unexpected escape route  - especially after their win today. Only one point behind Witney again and two behind Fairford but have played a game more than both and there are only three games left: one of them tomorrow at Highworth. There’s a possible three points H v Cheltenham Sarries but they’ll need a miracle in their last game at Scours lane on the 14th.
Season ending too soon for RTFC too; now on a great run of form for them, 6 wins and 2 draws in 8 and with 4 very winnable games to end with.

HELL1E
Highmoor Ibis 3-2 Penn & Tylers Green
Woodley Town 1-1 Newbury
Hellenic Challenge Q-F
Wok & Emm 1-1 Highworth – away win 3-0 on pens

Hellenic Supplementary R3
Chinnor 2-1 Maidenhead United Reserves

WESS1
AFC Portchester 5-0 Whitchurch United
Stockbridge 1-4 Fleet Spurs
- dipped in to this division to 'finish it off' (though I've not been to Cowes Sports yet but don't count them properly as they are overseas! ) Saw Verwood 3-0 Pewsey Vale on the fringes of the New Forest just a bit north of Ringwood off the A31. A very basic set up - sort of large Sports Park with Rugby - all-weather stuff - tennis Skate Park etc etc small-ish new pavilion did Hot Drinks and Snacks - their Social Club for 'drinks' is currently up in the village/town so not ideal for the casual visitor. Verwood won comfortablty enough to stay top and look to move up to Wessex Premier.

Poor old Wrexham.

Looking at 100+ points and having to settle for the play offs. And with Fleetwood's rather suspicious spending levels puuting them top. Shades of Windsor beating Totton to the title a couple of years ago.

Kidlington 37 9 4 24 45 94 -49 31

Witney Town 36 7 4 25 33 87 -54 25
Bracknell Town 37 7 3 27 36 116 -80 24

... and 'The Robins' avoid defeat tonight (Mon) at Highworth [0-0] - so have clawed level on points with Witney now. Trouble is they only have two games left to save themselves - and that's only if two are for the drop at the end of the season - its normally four. (Henley are declared as one of these on grading already I fear)

Big game tomorrow night at Stubbs Lane - Binfield host new leaders Oxford City Nomads who put 7 past 2nd placed Ardley not much else on locally; though the North Baaarks are supposed to be starting off 'non-lit' Midweek fixtures from this week - might risk one with the youngest (Steventon v Berinsfield) 18:15 start means he's not out too late - even if it is Holidays - though it looked a bit gloomy by 19:45 round here this eve.
Further afield RTFC go to Malmesbury from Div One for their Supplementary Cup Q-F tie

Henley Town Fc, in danger of folding after 140 years, called an extraordinary general meeting for April 11. Clubs needs cash to survive.

That would be a huge shame for a club that has been around as long as that. Sadly though it's in completely the wrong place if it ever wanted to become a bigger club and compete financially in the Football League. Shame.

Nice quote from the Henley Town Chairman:
"We have had a meeting to discuss whether we can amalgamate the two clubs but the only way I think we can do that is to let the club go bankrupt so it can start a fresh with no debt"

Great attitude to have really isn't it? I know they'll have worked hard to keep the club afloat but basically what he's saying is that to move forward they need to screw over those they owe money to.

It's a nice little club at Henley though and it would be a shame to see them go.

I also see that Tuttle is going to be leaving. I think he's done a really good job with Henley and I'm sure he'll get a few offers for next year. I wonder if Reading Town would be one of those tapping him up. He's had a lot of Reading based players at Henley (I think) and I've not been too impressed with Bartley's spell in charge (apart from his ability to get his mates and family to play of course).

Back in the day there were a number of "Greek" Leagues e.g. the Delphian and the Athenian. The Hellenic is the one that survived through with it's name intact.

It's not an "attitude" though is it?

It's just a factual statement of the current position.

Yeah true, never really noticed the Greek link to the old league names. I guess there is a reason behind the names?
