Standing

by Maguire » 11 Apr 2012 11:46

I notice Reading fans are standing more and more at away games. Fine by me as i'm massive and it makes for a better atmosphere.

Was thinking last night that it must totally scupper some people's chances of watching the game if you're in a shallow stand like Brighton and stuck behind giants.

Is there anyone shrunken on here? How do you cope when everyone stands?

Ironically, the best away view my 5ft tall wife has had this season was on the terracing at Posh...

This is the exact reason unreserved seating should be in place at away games!
I always stand due to the better atmosphere but totally understand that some people want to sit. Therefore sitters can sit at the front,
standers at the back!

All the left side was and I think about half of the rest or thereabouts (ie. the back half)

Everyone stood in the first half. The second half started and the people in front of me were sat down. Thankfully they soon stood up and those behind and around were good as gold. No complaints at all. I do not think i saw one steward attempt to get anyone to sit down.

The stewards made me laugh last night trying to get everyone to sit down at the start of the first half ... 'Stand up if you hate stewards' :D

In our block - the first 6 or 7 rows sat down and everyone else stood up. Tbf, if the people in front of you are standing, you have no option but to stand yourselves. As far as I know, there were no accidents/injuries or fatalities as a result of this flagrant ignoring of the "rules".

I don't stand if I have kids directly behind me, as I remember growing up not being able to see shit at football matches i reckon it kinda ruined it for me.

I had to stand on seats all game at the 1995 play off game v bolton spent more time trying not to fall over than understanding what was happening on the pitch. Subsequently all i can remember of that game is staring at peoples backs.

If promotion and consistent standing at away games are the legacy from this season then I think it will go down as the greatest of all time.

No problem standing myself but I don't like doing it when people behind you are obviously kiddies or old and likely not to be able to stand for long periods.

However until some headway is made with Safe Standing in this country I guess we're saddled with this problem and therefore should always SIT DOWN unless you are right at the back of the stadium.

Possibly true but the older woman in front of me stood with no problem through the match. Her swearing was shocking though.

Well, I had to stand at West Ham, unless I was there to appreciate the back of the advertising hoarding.
