Wow, yet more listing of every possible permutation on a prediction thread.

We don't get to pick and choose when to win our games. They're all worth three points. That's why people saying "i'd take a draw at Brighton" is mental. Why would you take a draw? Win the damn thing.

They should go into the Soton game thinking "if we win this we've basically done it" and not risk dropping pts in later games. Form team in the division, fear nobody.

I wasn't making a prediction, I was raising points.

Of COURSE we would "like to" win every game, but some teams set up for a draw and get it (eg Cardiff have 17 draws versus our 7)
but there are times when a manager wouldn't mind if he "only" got a draw.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN WE SETTLE FOR A DRAW OR PLAY FOR ONE.

Friday's game is a perfect example.

Lose and we can forget the title.

Lose, and if West Ham beat Brighton we are back to sweating BIG TIME
as we can't presume we'll get anything at St Andrews and we don't (ideally)
want to be going there NEEDING to win.

Of course, if we WIN at St Mary's we become close to favourites for the title

but Saints will have

Southampton V Coventry
Peterborough V Southampton
Middlesbrough V Southampton

IF we win our two home games, and Saints win their three (not easy I know) it will still come down to Birmingham away.

Surely Saints, while hoping for a win, with their GD would be not-unhappy with a draw, putting the pressure on us
to beat Palace and an in form Forest and then have to go to Birmingham, under pressure?

And surely we would be happy with a draw, putting us 7 points ahead of West Ham meaning they
have to beat Brighton the next day in their game in hand, and then make up four points in 3 games?

The way you're going on, you would think this was some kind of prediction thread.

I don't understand what a prediction is - instead I'll state the bleeding obvious about how winning helps Reading and losing helps West Ham

Royal Lady I'm going to say we'll lose, only because when I say that, we win!

I'd take a draw for defo though. Will hardly be able to hold my bottle of wine whilst watching the game on TV - I decided not to go with Schards et al - but kind of regretting it now....

Drinking a whole bottle of wine? Isn't that a bit irresponsible?

I won't be climbing up on to the roof of anywhere to take photos to show off on the internet - so I think I'll be ok. Didn't say I'd be drinking ALL of it anyway.

Though obviously I will be - I'm not mental!

Blimey - talk about making it complicated! Fortunately(?) some of us have been here many times before. The fact is Reading are 6 points ahead of WHU with just 4 games left. Reading are the form team in the division (not Southampton, not Forest and certainly not WHU) having won 5 of the last 6. WHU have won just 2 of the last 6. Who would you rather be? Look at the bookies odds and relax. Promotion will be ours and will be confirmed by the Palace game, maybe even at the Forest game.

Chill and enjoy!

Reading's next two away games will be the hardest two games they will have had to face all season

15-4-2 44-15 Southampton
12-8 -1 33-12 Birmingham

and they will be short of a great midfielder (Karacan) and may not have Leigertwood.

Not saying we WILL lose Friday and WHU win, but just think how the perspective suddenly changes if both things happen.

There's a good logical argument for us being massive favourites for automatic promotion (esp with WHU imploding)
but if we lose and they win this weekend, the odds change dramatically.

Mainly because all WHU will have to think THEN is, "Win next 3 games" (and they are capable of that)

Then Reading have to win BOTH home games (not a shoe-in) AND get a point at St Andrews.

I've predicted a 1-1 draw at Saints. I think we NEED one (or better, of course)
