Anyone see Skrtel swing at the Blackburn defender? Just before Carroll scored

No Fixed Abode Just seen the Liverpool team v Blackburn tonight. Surely a fine for a weakened team. or is it a stronger one.......

Presumably you'd be happier for them to concentr8 on Saturday as if Everton win the cup 6th place won't qualify for the Europa league

Just seen the whole Alan Davies thing.

LOLiverpooLOL fans are absolute retards. Easily the thickest, and most infuriating in British football.

Utter, utter pcunts.

The thing is there are so many trolls whenever hillsborough is mentioned they're bound to get a bit tetchy, but they seem to have over-reacted on this one. However Davies hasn't exactly covered himself in glory by not realising that the reason for them not wanting to play is the memorial service always held on that date, whether that's a decent reason or not is probably best not discussed here, thanks to the aforementioned trolls

I think that sums it up nicely SF.

I still find Liverpools season quite odd though. Whenever I've watched them on the telly, either highlights or live, they've usually been the side that's created the far better chances, and more of them as well.

There's obviously an element of poor finishing in the number of efforts that have hit the wordwork, been cleared off the line or well saved, let alone those that haven't hit the target, but it does also seem that they've been very close to being a good side this season. I don't put it down to being 'unlucky', because it's a lot more of their own doing than just luck, but they could easliy have been higher up the table given a decent run of form from one of their forwards.

The table doesn't lie, but it does show how fine the margins are between success and failure.

I've even seen Carroll have some good games recently.

Very surprised at this, looks like the owners juggled Dalglish and Comolli and chose to get rid of the latter, which suggests he had a bigger hand in the transfers than the manager. Comolli made some shrewed moves at Spurs but it just hasn’t worked out at Liverpool, he looked a good acquisition when he joined the club.

Fwiw I agree with HB, the margins between success and failure are very fine, but Liverpool have looked a better side than their results this season, particularly before Xmas. Their record against the top four has been very good iirc.

And their signings aren’t ‘bad’ per se, perhaps with the exception of Carroll who was never worth £35m and has never proven worth even £10m. Adam is a very good defensive midfielder but in Gerrard’s absence has been trying to play Gerrard’s role, with no success. Henderson likewise seems to lack a clear role, but he could and should be Liverpool’s Lampard, box to box, lots of short passes and movement. I still think he’ll come good. Downing has blown hot and cold, but then he has much of his career – definitely over-priced but another player who should be an asset to the club.

It’ll be interesting if Liverpool can hold on to the likes of Reina and Suarez this summer with no CL again next season – if they can, and can add some more firepower, being linked to Cavani and Villa, and they need another winger, then they should be challenging for 4th. And that’s not the fantasy of an armchair fan, they simply should be doing better than they are.

Good to see Liverpool helping out the last team in Europe by refusing to play on the 15th.
Can't believe Alan Davies is getting such a bad wrap for his opinion. Again, any opportunity for Liverpool to feel victimised. It's getting embarressing now.

Suarez has been a bad signing

£22m for a striker who has scored 8 goals and got one assist and whose actions v Man U brought the double-whammy of an 8 match ban and weeks and weeks of scorn and derision is pretty much the definition of a bad signing

but no he does a few fancy tricks and turns so it must be a good signing

Liverpool's policy of recruiting young(ish) British talent was all well and good but the problem is that they only get those that Man Utd and Spurs don't want. Carroll,Downing,Henderson,Shelvey aren't bad players they just aren't especially good and none of them are good enough for a side that needs to break into the top4.

So that leaves Liverpool with bringing through their homegrown players but these at the moment all seem to be steady defensive players like Spearing,Flanagan who seems to be a bit of a hothead and Kelly who does look like hes got something about him. Raheem Sterling is highly regarded but he's really two seasons away from contributing regularly to a side challenging anywhere near the upper echelons of the Premiership.

With the overthetop money they're spending(wasting!) on their young British transfer policy & no Champions League football in the foreseeable future I don't see how they can attract the likes of Cavani or Villa to the club really. Thats before,as you say,you even get to whether they can persuade the best players like Reina and Suarez to say.

IF they win the FA cup then they could actually say its been a good season but looking at the bigger picture they need the adorementioned British players reaching a potential I don't think they actually possess in order to make the marked improvement in the league they need.

Suarez has been their best signing, but like the rest of the team was better before Xmas, when he was running defences ragged, in spite of his lack of goals. Has gone off the boil since.

Ridiculous post.

It's a bit funny to deride him for a lack of goals and then post up that he's missed over 20% of the season.

There are indeed, but it's not as if Alan Davies is some internet troll out to provoke a reaction.

There was a good piece in the Telegraph about it
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/brend ... rrectness/

You only have to look at some of the irate replies to see that the actual points that either Alan Davies or the column writer made are completely ignored, and the criticism is just laid on with a trowel. The column is actually about media-conditioned responses to public grief. It's nothing to do with the causes of the Hillsborough disaster or whether Liverpool should play on the 15th or not, yet the comments section is still full of people demanding justice for the 96 and putting the record straight about what happened that day.

It's like watching justice_for_maddie and rot_in_hell_myra from Private Eye's "from the message boards" chipping in.

Interesting given Carroll’s apparent difficulties in getting fit, and niggling and repeated injuries ot the likes of Gerrard and Johnson, that the sports science team have also been shown the door.

Read a tweet from a journalist yesterday saying that Liverpool have the best fitness stats in the league this season, I'll try to find it.

even before the ban he'd been outscored by the likes of Long and Pilkington

the Carroll thing is hiding the issue that Suarez has been a bad signing but mongs appear to think he's a good signing because he's famous and nobs like Hansen tell them he's a good signing.
