anyway if he'd just stuck to playing football and had scored let's say 12 goals oyu'd ahve said, fine, OK signing.

but

8 match ban

3 months of derision all stemming from his actions

that's a bad signing away from the playing side of things

Statistics can help you identify whether a player has certain qualities on a football pitch.

But it's also their qualities off the football pitch you need to judge. Commolli seems not to have realised this.

So how does Kenny escape with a resounding vote of confidence from the Liverpool board, when he has publically said that HE chose every transfer target and Commolli just got those players in?

Had Commolli done his research and realised that a certain player wasn't appropriate, would he have had the power to have said to Kenny, "Nope, though this player is good at this, he really doesn't fit into the team and so we won't go for him"

If he did that, the fans would have slaughtered him; he was on a lose/lose at once, and yet the guy who instructed him to get the donkeys is lauded by the fans!

Incredible.

I guess it shows how much football has changed that people quite readily suggest Dalglish should be sacked for signing three England internationals and a player with a terrific goalscoring record for Ajax. They weren’t donkeys when he signed them, they simply haven’t performed.

I seem to recall at the start of the season me saying about the signings of Downing, Adam, henderson etc.....they're ok players but wouldn't lift Liverpool to the next level. They've remained pretty shit.

I recall saying something very similar about Chelsea's signings. They're OK players but wouldn't lift Chelsea to the next level. They've remained pretty shit.. in fact, they've taken the club backwards.

And if they haven't performed, who is to blame for that? I suggest it might well be the Manager's......

Therefore, why was Commolli sacked?

According to the club, it was because despite spending £113M in transfers, all those players have done is to have helped Liverpool to their worst run of form since 1953, leaving them in 8th place a mere 17 points off a relegation spot, or, if you prefer, 33 points off 1st place.

Yet Kenny has said HE was the one who wanted those players in...

Its clear to everybody but the most dyed in the wool Liverpool supporter that Kenny's reign has been pretty well a disaster, yet the owners are petrified of getting the same treatment from the Liverpool fans that their fellow Americans down the East Lancs Road get, so bottled the big call and found a patsy to take the hit instead.

You won’t convince many Liverpool fans that winning a first trophy in six years is a ‘disaster’ – and then you have to ask what difference there is between 5th and 7th. Not a lot really. No Champions League either way.

The Times article today is quite enlightening – it’s becoming clear that the owners simply didn’t agree with Comolli’s approach. Fenway wanted to base Liverpool’s future on the development of young, relatively unknown signings – the Times said they have become increasingly frustrated watching Newcastle have success with that approach, with the likes of Ba, Cisse, Cabaye, Tiote etc using the money Liverpool paid for Carroll. Comolli’s approach was young, established British players which he bought at the top of the market.

I think Dalglish’s comments yesterday were as much about protecting the players that he has signed and their morale ahead of tomorrow’s semi-final. When he’s going to ask Henderson and Downing to go and get him to another cup final, he’s hardly going to come out and say ‘well Damien recommended these players to me.’

I should think there is an element of truth in the idea that the Liverpool owners are a little hesitant to sack Dalglish. Not only is he a club legend, the man the fans wanted in place and one who's brought them their first trophey for however long, but they also have to bear in mind Liverpool aren't a club that have sacked managers willy nilly either.

They seem to have bought into the history and culture of the club (appointing Dalglish for start) and want to do what they can to keep that intact, so sacking another manager so quickly is just setting them on the course of other poorly run clubs, like Chelsea for instance.

I also think they'll have a much better idea of what's been going on with recruitment of these players than punters watching Sky Sports and reading the red tops. If they apportion the blame on Comoli then I reckon they're probably pretty sure there's a good reason to do so.

Another factor is that I wonder if they're lining Dalglish up as the man to move upstairs into Comoli's job. That would be a bit of a shift back to the 'boot room' philosphy and also keeping Dalglish involved but perhaps moving him away from the first team management where, to be honest, he's not torn up any trees (I think he's done an ok job to be fair, but he's a short term solution to a long term problem).

Can they bring someone in who could work with Dalglish above him? Tough one I'd have thought, but now he's had a stab at the job and not been the saviour many had him down as his presence might not be the divisive influence it was for Woy.

Yet another cup final after dominating for most of the game today and a man-of-the-match from that little star Suarez.
It makes you wonder if Liverpool might just have qualified for the Champions League if that moaning minny at Man Utd hadn't made such a big deal of things-a player who spends most games diving or complaining presumably in French so that the referees don't take offence.

Like I said at the start of the season. Not getting in the top 4 would be a disaster for Liverpool. After ALL that money they spent. Even if they win the FA Cup, it's no consolation.

I think JW Henry will decide if it is a disaster or not,and not an occasional Chelsea fan.
BTW good luck in your cup final this afternoon.

I think many Liverpool fans would partly agree but be very happy with winning two major trophies this season.

They can rebuild for next season with the aim of getting back into the top four, much in the same way as Chelsea need to, but two trophies less...

It's pretty much a perfect example of a consolation.
