Yes, and somewhere in your comment is the subtle hint that our best two starting midfielders were absent...didn't really hear that on the broadcast during the game...

Amazing night, beat the trip to West Essex and I didn't think I would say that.

Only super Mac would bring on a striker for a midfielder and go on to win the game.

Normally I hate it when McD pulls off one of the centre mid players and puts Jobi in there, but this evening it made a big difference after Tabb came off. Barely a threat from Soton after that - if HRK is fit Tuesday I wouldn't be supeised if Jobi and Mullins start in the centre

very important point. I noted the same in all the build up match coverage that I read. None of the papers noted that Karacan and Ledge were out.

Anyone saying we were lucky - no chance. They had lots of pressure but created few clear chances and missed few obvious goalscoring opportunities. Fantastically disciplined and organised in defence and clinical in attack; you don't get 3 wins in 3 away games against 3 of the best teams in the division through luck. Reading through the West Ham forum* it seems that they still don't appreciate the value of teamwork and a dogged defensive effort, preferring to call us lucky mugs and cheating cants; we are a better team than them and that is why we will finish way ahead of them despite having a wage bill which is probably a third of theirs.

Great to get in before midnight just for once after an evening game.
I thought we started the game well and looked less nervous-as Tony wrote earlier it was probably good to have the Brighton game ahead of this one as a build up to another big game.
In the first half in particular Hunt won nearly all the headers and Roberts was strong as were our two centre-backs but Saints had a number of half-chances and didn't take advantage.
The goal came out of nothing with a good cross from Jimmy and a rare Roberts header.

Saints dominated the first 20 minutes of the second half and having scored their goal I think most of our fans would have settled for the draw.
We hung in there with our two central defenders immense and doing nothing much going forward but then 2 terrific Alf finishes and as with Brighton on Tuesday somehow we come away with all 3 points and let's face it we are up.

I think we won the game as, despite Lambert being the best individual player on the pitch by miles with every attacking move coming through him,our 2 central defenders and keeper were better than theirs and Alf showed everbody how to finish and some.
Brian said on the radio that he made more attacking substitutions-he didn't,he just did his usual moving of Jobi to central midfield,Hunt dropped back to left midfield and Alf replaced him up front.
What he did do though was to orchestrate a massive victory away to the next best team in the division and at the moment he can almost walk on water.
Brian,please let us all know what horse you will be backing in the National.

Given the number of chances Lambert had tonight, I don't rate him that highly. Yes, our defence is bloddy good, but they were all over us for long periods tonight, and got 1 goal from 9 shots on target, and that needed a lucky deflection.

Well done to everyone who was there. You looked loud on the tv what with the shouts of blarmy. What an amazing performance. The back 4 were immense. Still have reservations about Feds especially in the first half. That said, he had oxf*rd all to do second half. What an excellent team effort. A MILLION times better than the game against Burnley. Faith somewhat restored. And yes, I am pissed.
