Some fella sat there in the t/o drumming his fingers thinking "i'm *sure* there was something i was meant to do, oh, that's it, set the points limiter for the Birmingham online ticket sales before it's too late.....doh"

Haven't decided yet as I may already be in Brum for the weekend.
However, what I would say is this:
Bristol to Brum off-peak return £48.40
or
Bristol to Gloucester off-peak return £8.20 and Gloucester to Brum off-peak return £22.00 = £30.20
Don't have to book specifc trains or anything. All routes from Bristol to Brum go via Gloucester.

You will have to travel through Gloucester station, which almost all fast trains from Bristol to Birmingham don't do. You will have to look at splitting at Cheltenham instead, or take the train to Gloucester, and change there for Birmingham.
