Forest take an early lead and hang on for dear life second half. Southampton go 3 up early doors. Game peters out but crowd get going on 80 minutes with news of Bristol City's late winner. Dodgy penalty in injury time and Ian Harte blasts us into the big time. Southampton win 6-0 to ease their worries and set up a title race.

Why is everyone predicting what the score of the Forest (H) game is going to be tomorrow night as according to the BBC we're actually playing Bristol City instead..........

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins says he has not given up on winning the Championship despite Friday's defeat by promotion-rivals Reading.

Saints travel to Peterborough on Tuesday and are three points behind leaders Reading with three to play.

"The objective is to win the division, alright Reading have gone three points ahead," Adkins told BBC Radio Solent.

Use accessible player and disable flyout menus"We've got a game on Tuesday as have Reading. Who knows what will happen after that?"

Reading host Championship strugglers Bristol City on Tuesday and could earn promotion if results go their way elsewhere.

Uncannily now optimistic about this one.

We will win. No idea by how much and frankly don't care, but we will.

Score first and it will be plain sailing.

Sudden outbreak of negativity?
A view based on long years of experience in these situations? or
Superstitious view of those secretly confident of a win but not daring to appear over confident or want to jinx it?

2-1 to Nottingham Forest after we've gone 1-0 up.

Lets not get carried away here though. Forest have a puncher's chance, there's absolutely no reason why they can't get an early goal and then sit on it and watch us get nervous.

On paper we should win, obviously, but this is football and things don't always go according to form. Leeds had chances with 10 men to win it, Coventry had plenty of opportunities etc..so to say this particular match is a forgone conclusion is pretty short sighted.

Indeed right now Wigan are 2-1 up at the Emirates....it may well be different at FT, but it shows that there's no such thing as banker in football.

Agreed and that is why McD is not changing a thing in the way he has prepared the team. It ain't over until it's over, as a great American philosophizer once said.

Reading 3-2 Forest

Forest take the lead, Kebe equalises. Forest take the lead, Pearce equalises. ALF wins the game.

You're completely correct of course, no guarantees but all these people predicting we'll lose surely wouldn't put their money on that outcome

Unless they were very superstitious and thought it might help us get the three points. :D

That raises an interesting question...how much would any of us pay to guarantee our promotion?

The main reason to be optimistic* is surely that we know that Sir Brian of Slough will in no way be preparing the team with any kind of "just go out and batter them, it'll be a piece of piss" attitude

*apart from the fact that we've been absolute skillz all year pretty much

Still here from s. America, saints game was top class, going to this as well but will be my last game before going home next week. I would absolutely love to see us promoted in the flesh, but any sort of win and a great atmosphere will suffice.

Am I right in saying that Steve Cotterill has managed 2 wins out of 2 against us this season.

Time to be cautious.

2-2 scoreline
