Two players have changed our season this season, and that is Gorkss and Roberts. Both had an immediate impact and we've been a different side ever since.

I'm still voting Pearce though as Gorkss has brought the best out of him. Together they have been fantastic this season.

Wanted to pay my respects to the players who made my shortlist. Tellingly, my shortlist only satisfies half of its definition in that it is a list but, due to how many vital players we have, is far from short.

Pearce is by far the most improved player, and has turned into a truly fantastic defender – strong positioning, reads the game well, unbeatable in the air, good with the ball, great tackler; for me overtaking Gorkss as our standout performer in this position. The change has been overwhelming, and he has become Readings most vital player.

However, I can’t ignore how much Gorkss seems to have had a hand in Pearce’s improvement. Gorkss’ presence not only changed the defence for the better almost instantly, he appears to have given our lad a true role model and mentor figure; for me every bit of credit Pearce get’s a healthy fraction of it belongs to Gorkss.

Ian Harte should be in the hat again this season, as he overcame his wobble at the start of the season which in hindsight could be partly attributed to a malfunctioning back four, to show just how important he is to us. For every defensive mistake attributed to his lack of pace, Harte makes three of four defining moves per game, whether it’s a well timed tackle or a goal scoring delivery. Has to be a consideration for his creativity alone.

McAnuff is another player who hasn’t let a poor start define his season. Instead of letting the captaincy cast a shadow over him, he now defines the role. His delivery is still a disappointment but there isn’t a better player to have on the ball; he gets forward, he overlaps, he tracks back, he switches sides, he takes people on and never stops. He’s grown into a player to be proud of.

Karacan was criticised at the start of the season for perhaps being little more than a workhorse, but over the course of the year he’s turned that into an art other teams are jealous of. I’ve never seen a footballer run as much as this lad, he is everywhere. We pat the defence on the back for our clean sheets, but they owe him a big thank you – how many fires have been stamped out before they even get going by this dynamo? Some of his passing has been outstanding also.

Leigertwood also needs a hug from the back four; he has become an essential ingredient in our side. But goal of the season scoring Legs has also started working the channels, providing outlets for the attack, keeping the ball moving and even scoring goals. We are finally seeing a more all-round game from our central mids and Leigertwood is leading the way.

What Gorkss did for the defence, Jason Roberts has done for the attack. Whatever the score, whatever the stage of the game, Roberts is confident, unfazed and still going, keeping our attack open eyed. A huge hand in our goal scoring during this brilliant spell of form, his enthusiasm and quality has turned a timid attack into a determined one.

All in all, I think Gorkss get’s it for me as apart from his consistently excellent performances, without that confidence he brought to the defence, we may not have seen the changes in the others that made my list. Not only has Gorkss given us some moments of class, I think he has been key in turning our season into ride it has become.

There are plenty on here who would argfue that the 4th placed person in that list would render the whole table as lacking credibility.

Pearce has been outstanding and has got better and better as the season has gone on. He's also an Academy product and wears his heart on his sleeve so it will come as no surprise if he wins POTS quite comfortably. I'd still go for Gorkss personally, as a centre half he's the best I've seen at Reading since Keith Curle.

Thats it in a nutshell for me. Take any of the other contenders out of the side and we'd be slightly worse off. Take out Gorkss and we'd be nowhere this season.

Definitely a three-way contest, my vote goes to Gorkss, our up-turn in form was the moment our shambolic defence was sorted out - enter Kaspars.

I can't stress enough how I feel he changed our season, and Pearce's performances, for the better.

Player of the season for me.

Great to see the academy continue to turn out top players.

Aww!!

Seriously, it's amazing to watch that video and see the players they have become. Especially Gylfi, lighting up the Premiership.

Only 3 votes for Leigertwood - we miss him when he doesn't play and scored the goal to take us up

which shows that HNA? is not representative of the whole Reading support as the three way contest overall is not the 3 on here

Pearce is my favourite player at the club, but this is a vote for player of the season not favourite player.

Karacan for me.

Don't we play "Reveal the Royal" at the last home game?

Ah, you mean starliaison is referring to the paper vote (with inside knowledge).
No other on-line member vote ?

That paper vote handed out at one game is unlikely to be representative is it ? More like MotM.
