Newcastle would have to be a favourite if they make an effort.

Close call between us and Swansea. It'll basically depend on if either of us can match the price and which convinces him more of its ambition. Swansea not finishing the season strongly. Reading all the momentum of a promotion, where he cut his teeth, where his best mate is, big new investment and going for all the things that show big ambition.

If Rodgers goes to Spurs, I think he'd sign for us over Swansea. I'm not sure he'd be a fit and have enough chance to play at Spurs. They've got a lot of good attacking talent already. He'd have a better bet of playing first team football regularly at Arsenal or Liverpool, of the bigger clubs IMO.

So Arsenal > Newcastle / Liverpool > Reading / Swansea > Villa.

Signing Sig would be the best news since making the Premier League for the first time ever.

Agree 100% Ian. VDV plays in the hole does he not? As good as Gylfi is, he is not as good as VDV. yet.

Found myself next to a function room last night in the stadium at about 00:30 when Anton walked past. I shook his hand and joked 'now all you need to do is sign Gylfi Sigurdsson!' He smiled and replied 'we will be looking at him'.

I would say this one is a "possible" depending on interest from bigger clubs.

If he hadn't had this loan spell at Swansea (which has showcased his talent) i'd think it was more likely

If Gylfi is interested (that is a really big IF) and we're happy to splash out £10m... then this could happen.

With a new owner keen to win over the fans and the idea that we will "not be splashing the cash"... this is one of the few big signings which I actually think is tenable.

Considering we received £6m for him I think any big fee could be pitched to the media as reinvesting money we got in (even if that money has actually already been spent).

But... Ferguson could do a lot worse than sign Gylfi for United.

If we did have a sell on clause for 25% then buying Gylfi back at 10 million would surely only cost us £500,000?

Looks like a bargain to me!

Let’s take it as red that Gylfi would love to come play again for us. Why wouldn’t he? His friends are here, his mentor, he’s worshiped like a God, it will be prem footie, he’ll have a team built around him, he’ll be on a good wage… surely vs Hoffenheim, or other ‘small’ prem clubs including Swansea, or stupid Spanish clubs which are little more than a Sangria guzzling dirt-town full of sunburnt English and German skinheads, we are the better choice.

However, if Man U, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aresenal, Newcastle even Liverpool come in for him, we can’t compete.

And what the hell does “take it as red” mean anyway?

I've always thought it was "take it as read", used in meetings when you are assuming everyone there has read the material provided ahead of the meeting so you don't have to go over the content

Not saying he would go there, but Malaga could have cliched a spot in the champions league for next year by the time the bids start rolling in.

That would make more sense. And a Read Herring is...?

If such a sell-on clause exists, Hoffenheim selling Gylfi to another club for £10m would net us £2.5m.
So for us to meet a £10m valuation we would need to pay £7.5m and waive the £2.5m sell-on clause.
Seems your estimate is about £7m out!

I believe Reading will be looking at his situation but it basically will come down to what other clubs are involved. With the new owners behind us we are going to be more than a match for some Premiership clubs and may even be able to give a close run to other clubs at our level.

Essentially if any of the current big names in the Premiership or abroad are involved we aren't going to stand a chance but if they aren't we'll have a slightly better chance than most.

Apart from the fact that we sold him for 7 million.

I'll forgive your basic mathematical error this time!

Tokyo Sex Whale What is the most you would pay for him now? Assuming we're not going to be silly about it and only spend what we believe he is actually worth - what is that price?

£8 million? £10 million? on a player who has played a handful of top flight games and was dropped at Hoffenheim?

This.

Also can't understand the wankfest over Swansea this season.

Yeah, they play good football but without the Sig they'd be in the shit with QPR now!

I would expect Hoffenheim to want their money back plus some. More than ruling us out.
