Close call between us and Swansea. It'll basically depend on if either of us can match the price and which convinces him more of its ambition. Swansea not finishing the season strongly. Reading all the momentum of a promotion, where he cut his teeth, where his best mate is, big new investment and going for all the things that show big ambition.

If Rodgers goes to Spurs, I think he'd sign for us over Swansea. I'm not sure he'd be a fit and have enough chance to play at Spurs. They've got a lot of good attacking talent already. He'd have a better bet of playing first team football regularly at Arsenal or Liverpool, of the bigger clubs IMO.

So Arsenal > Newcastle / Liverpool > Reading / Swansea > Villa.

If Gylfi is interested (that is a really big IF) and we're happy to splash out £10m... then this could happen.

With a new owner keen to win over the fans and the idea that we will "not be splashing the cash"... this is one of the few big signings which I actually think is tenable.

Considering we received £6m for him I think any big fee could be pitched to the media as reinvesting money we got in (even if that money has actually already been spent).

But... Ferguson could do a lot worse than sign Gylfi for United.

Let’s take it as red that Gylfi would love to come play again for us. Why wouldn’t he? His friends are here, his mentor, he’s worshiped like a God, it will be prem footie, he’ll have a team built around him, he’ll be on a good wage… surely vs Hoffenheim, or other ‘small’ prem clubs including Swansea, or stupid Spanish clubs which are little more than a Sangria guzzling dirt-town full of sunburnt English and German skinheads, we are the better choice.

However, if Man U, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aresenal, Newcastle even Liverpool come in for him, we can’t compete.

I believe Reading will be looking at his situation but it basically will come down to what other clubs are involved. With the new owners behind us we are going to be more than a match for some Premiership clubs and may even be able to give a close run to other clubs at our level.

Essentially if any of the current big names in the Premiership or abroad are involved we aren't going to stand a chance but if they aren't we'll have a slightly better chance than most.
