you want 10 mill?

Okay well... we have a 25% sell on clause. (no idea how much of a sell on clause we actually have...)

So take 2.5 mill of that and we'll call it square. :?

Would Gylfi suit Readings long ball game though?

That's a good point worth noting, though isn't it a % of profit and not sale price? Still, it would bring the price down.

We could easily adapt. Afterall we built the team around him when he was here and he's easily good enough to adapt his own game.

Little tip btw. When trolling the RFC part of the board try saying we'd have been promoted earlier if Le Fondre hadn't missed some easy shots, criticise Alex McCarthy in an over the top manner or claim that RFC want to become the new Crewe Alexandra (although that might not work now Anton's taken over). Good luck.

Tokyo Sex Whale What is the most you would pay for him now? Assuming we're not going to be silly about it and only spend what we believe he is actually worth - what is that price?

£8 million? £10 million? on a player who has played a handful of top flight games and was dropped at Hoffenheim?

I think in today's market he's 12M+, would look fantastic at Arsenal, say

Didn't harm him when he banged in nearly 20 goals for us last time.

If we have a budget of say £12M I would like us to splash it all on Gylfi - if we could get him.

I think with what we have already we would be virtually guaranteed to survive in the PL although we would also need more cover at CB.

urz13 Found myself next to a function room last night in the stadium at about 00:30 when Anton walked past. I shook his hand and joked 'now all you need to do is sign Gylfi Sigurdsson!' He smiled and replied 'we will be looking at him'.
:shock:
:D

Bollocks!

Not at all, I assure you!
Also, has anyone seen this?

LOL. No way is he worth £12m for half a good season in the PL with one goal at home, being frozen out in Germany (despite his first year, he wasn't dropped for no reason) and a good year or so with Reading.

He's worth £10mil at the most. We don't know today's market, we don't know what add ons would be demanded, we know nothing!

From what I understand neither us or Swansea will sign him. Destined for big things so expect a big club to take the plunge. Arsenal or Liverpool in this country or another big European team.

The most frustrating thing would be if he signs for some mediocre Premier League team. You can't be upset if he goes to someone like Everton, Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd etc. But there'd be a real sense of missing out if it was someone like Swansea.

Gylfi coming back make some sense.

Remember we brought Hartey in for his dead-ball kicks.

At first glance, maybe having to spend 10-12 million on Gylfi seems crazy
but we have a solid side, solid central-midfield/defence now and Gylfi
behind a hold-up striker would probably work, and of course we'd have his
free-kick prowess.

Remember that the sell-on clause helps us, so the headline figure would be lower,
and if the price is ACTUALLY lowered then there is less VAT to worry about, so,
whatever the market-price, we'd be getting a relative bargain.

We will have to find at least one player who has the specialness to get goals in the Prem.

Almost certainly, most games we are going to be under pressure and looking to break,
nick goals or get free-kicks from about 20 yards.

I thought when I started this that if we got Gylfi we'd let Harte go, but perhaps we'd
go for Gylfi and a strong-quick defensive FB with Harte as cover, and to come in if
Gylfi was out injured etc.

Just about every half decent team in Europe will be looking at Gylfi this summer. He won't be coming back to Reading. Nor Swansea, nor Stoke or any other mid table side. He'll be playing for a team in European competitions next year.

Redknapp --> England
Modric --> ManUre
Rogers --> Spurs
Gylfi --> Spurs

Swansea --> Championship

Agree that's the most likely, but it might yet depend on how much clubs value him
and how he would work at those clubs.

eg, why the hell didn't he work well-enough for the Hoffenheim Manager?

If Hoffenheim are just interested in increasing their financial return then a season long loan to RFC might suit everyone.

1/ If they sell now they will most likely only get 10-12M max
2/ A full successful season in the PL next time and his price could easily go to 20M plus
3/ If they loan him to Swansea again they might suffer from second season syndrome - so a new loan could be beneficial
4/ RFC have a financial incentive to make him an even more expensive player as we will get a cut of the much higher fee.

I would welcome him back even if it was for just one season. We could then spend all next season scouting for a replacement to bring in - assuming we survive.

That really would be a waste of his ability.
