Dare to Dr£am SJM confirmed today the expansion to 38k will start next summer if we stay up.

And as I said, that's idiotic.

Surely you expand to 30k first and see if it's necessary for the other 8k. I can't see us selling out over 30k every home game, let alone 38k. IF it all goes ahead anyway.

That's what we will do. :|

Why keep turning fans away? You expand when the demand is there, and guess what, the demand is there - AND they're preparing for european football. It's no different than leaving 15k Elm Park for 25k Madejski Stadium and all the old bums moaning it was too big...
You have to plan for the future, and we are!

Surely it's cost effective to do the whole build than wait for inflated and more costly extensions on the extensions.

Am guessing that the way it's designed may mean it's cheaper to go all at once than in stages....

Interesting developments. Ones I'm pleased to see we're kicking on with to be honest, not least because it shows we're really looking to build on what we have.

In terms of what Madejski has or hasn't said (I've not heard or read anything so far) it could mean anything with him (he's quite possibly still pissed too). Starting work on expanding to 38k doesn't actually mean we'll be doing it all in one go of course, just that we're starting on the journey towards it (ie doing the first part of the build on the East Stand).

Surely the go or no-go decision will have to be made by the end of the year in order to get the contracts signed for the work to commence? They can't suddenly look at the table in April and say well we are staying up so lets get it done as they won't get the construction company in quick enough.......

Perhaps they'll work on some kind of contractual agreement and a retainer?

One thing that I think hasn't been mentioned in the last page or so is that as soon as we have extra capacity we will also gain the ability to be more creative with ticket promotions and the like. That will be something the club will see as an extra benefit as they can get more people in to see what all the fuss is about and hopefully convert them to a more regular fan.

Yep, they could continue to do the stuff with kids from the schools, and kids for a quid, bring a friend for a 5er etc etc and still have plenty of space to actually fit them all in.

Final stage should be 106,106 seats.

Unless we win the Prem by a record number of points in which case adjust accordingly...

The design of the stadium is similar to Arsenal's place but all one tier, which I think is more impressive anyway, so I imagine we could add to the corners so the top tier links all one level again, but adding what? 1000 more seats?

I think you'd have to see a stand knocked down to take the capacity above the planned 38,000.

If you go to the Reading BC planning website there loads of drawings illustrating how it will look when finished. Personally I really like the current proposed plans as the north, east & south stands remain as a single tier with only limited corporate hospitality included. I think that when it's finished it will look the best of all the new build stadiums currently in England.

I'm sure I've seen a big PDF of it. I'll have a search.

Construction will be spread over two summers to limit disruption during home games and safeguard the existing seating
capacity.

We plan to construct the North and South extensions first, followed by the East. However, How the stadium looks with only part
of the extension is important. The images above compare how it will look with the East Stand first or the North and South stands
first. Your views would be much appreciated.

So it wasn't decided at that point if they started with the East or North and South, it was for open discussion and the public's feedback. Personally I would go for the East, as that extra 6000 seats would take us to 30,000 and then wait and see about the rest after a season or two. If we did the North and South first, especially with their roof design, it would look a bit odd trying to link the existing East Stand roof to the the higher, curved South and North Stand roofs.
