Several Rumours

by winchester_royal » 21 Apr 2012 19:43

Was talking to one of the coaches in the hotel bar after the game, and as such have a few rumours for you lot.

1. Scott Sutter - RB playing for Young Boys in Switzerland, apparently this one is nearly a done deal.

2. Jacob Butterfield - Barnsley player, don't know much about him

3. Lewis Dunk - Brighton CB, good player

Also, Sigurdsson is supposedly off to Arsenal.

Interestingly, apparently Brum have a 3m shortfall in their accounts, hence being unable to post them this week. 10 point deduction coming up

I think there was another rumour for us, but I can't remember  . It'll come to me.

Don't know whether this is truth or nonsense, but he seemed very genuine in what he was saying, and he definitely works for the club

Interest in Butterfield is genuine. Young creative midfielder (Barnsley).

Birmingham could also be true as this was something they were worrying about a couple of months ago when they missed a deadline about their accounts. Would be very interesting if they lost 10 points this season at this stage!

Sigurdsson to Arsenal sounds about right. He is made of their style of football and Arsene Wenger is the ideal man to develop the boy further!

Got it, Wayne Bridge.

He also mentioned Alex Song...now I'm fairly sure he was joking about that one, but you never know

Yeah Butterfield is an interesting one, very highly rated up north, and Dunk was called up to the U21's last November

Interesting summer ahead

Song no thanks very overrated.

Siggy to Arsenal would be a great move for him, still we might still get him.

Scott Sutter was in talks with Blackburn in January but for some reason the deal didn't materialise. He's very keen to come to the Premiership.

The 25-year-old Swiss international was born in England but is eligible to represent Switzerland through his Swiss father - he played two international matches in 2010.

I have to say I've been impressed with how keen we appear to be to act early and not be left behind with our targets. Certainly going to be an interesting summer.

bridge, no thanks, average player on huge wages, let's not become the new qpr and become a hideout for aging english mercenary players, let's follow the wigan/newcastle model and get young and hungry foreigners in and also the swansea model, talented and unheralded young british talent

adam matthews is an excellent young full-back at celtic, we'd be mad not to find out if he was interested in playing in the premier league

we need:

2 fullbacks
a centre-back
1 attacking midfielder (key signing)
1 winger
1 striker

that should do us nicely

If Dunk gets cleared from his charges, I would take him. Not sure if Brighton would let their own academy player go, though.

Wayne Bridge again? Don't be surprised to see us raid Man City for their reserves this summer as their new chief exec is a Reading fan and good pal of Madejski and McDermott apparently

Thats the fella at Coventry isn't he? Personally think he's over-rated from what i've seen (if it is indeed him) and looks like Palace's Zaha today, a lot of running, a lot of skill, but a woeful end product.

But they're both young and can be developed. You don't just ignore young talent because it's not quite all there from a young age. FWIW Nimley had a very good game against us at the Madejski, better than Zaha I thought; but both look very promising.

I assume you wouldn't be interested in Aaron Lennon or Theo Walcott either?

Did i say i didn't want them anywhere? Not that i can see. I'm not sure they'd be starters in the Prem that's all

winchester_royal Also, Sigurdsson is supposedly off to Arsenal.

Doesn't make sense to me. They already have Song, Wilshire and Ramsey which should be their midfield for 10 years or more, there's no room for Sigurdsson unless they play him out of position. Sigurdsson might be slightly better than Ramsey (who he would theoretically replace) but that is still one of their strongest positions.

No chance of Song, surely? He is unbelievably good and so, so underrated IMO.

Yeah, Song seems very unlikely. The only way he'll leave is if Wenger signs one of the four or five better defensive midfielders in the world, and even then you'd imagine he'd go to Chelsea or Manchester or Italy/Germany rather than Reading.

Sutter and Dunk would be interesting signings. Dunk is just the right level to be good enough for the PL but not worried about being behind Pearce and Gorkss.

Butterfield is highly-rated. Was injured by Brown of Leeds, out for the season

Relative cheap too

BBC

Barnsley boss Keith Hill awaits Jacob Butterfield exit

Barnsley boss Keith Hill has said he firmly expects captain Jacob Butterfield to leave the club at the end of the season.

Butterfield, 21, is out of contract with the Tykes in the summer and Hill does not expect the midfielder to sign a new deal with the Championship side.

"We've offered him a good deal, in my opinion he won't accept it," Hill told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"He will leave the football club and probably for the Premier League."
Use accessible player and disable flyout menus

And the Oakwell boss says he is frustrated with the tribunal system that will decide how much compensation the club will get, should Butterfield leave.

As the player is under 23, the Tykes would be owed a fee by whoever he signed for but Hill is resigned to not getting what he believes his player is worth.

"There's no fee guaranteed, so we'll probably have to take it to a tribunal," the former Rochdale manager added.

"In my opinion he's worth £3m. Will we get that amount? Absolutely not.

"By the time a tribunal sorts out how much we're going to get for him it'll be the middle of August or later."

Butterfield was ruled out for the season in January after suffering a knee injury in the 4-1 win over Leeds United in December.

Meanwhile, full-back Luke Potter has been forced to retire at the age of 22.

Potter has suffered with a chronic knee injury and his last appearance came in a loan spell at Alfreton in November.

Song is a superb player, but surely out of our reach?
