TBM As Mourinho said "The Chelsea boys were heroes yesterday, absolute heroes. I know some people think Barcelona are the masters of the game and will criticise Chelsea like they criticised Inter Milan two years ago. But they know nothing about character, about effort, about a team with 10 men resisting tactically, physically, everything"

Who cares what that absolute pcunt thinks?

With what they have spent on players over the years to try to bring in what they considered to be some of the best players in world football wouldn't you think they would have had the same approach as Bayern Munich "We are as good as this lot so we'll go out and try to win the game even though we have a first leg lead"?

Regarldess of how much they spent the players that were bought I.e big and strong for the most part, were not bought for the purpose of playing the same tactics Barcelona play. It was in fact bought to play the tactics we saw them implement. Defend first, and hit on the break with pace. Which is exactly what they did, it was only magnified because of Barcelona's tactics.

ZacNaloen And if Chelsea had done that they'd have lost massively. It's just not in their interests.

There we go....

Chelsea weren't playing for "the neutrals" - they were playing for themselves and point me in the direction of one Chelsea fan who didn't enjoy it

Of course Chelsea fans enjoyed the result even if they felt embarrassed (as some of them did in the first leg at The Bridge)by the way their team played especially bearing in mind the stick they have given to spoilers such as Stoke and the old Arsenal about the way they play the game.
This is a "neutral" topic and discussion board (apart from Kes) so most of us don't give a toss about Chelsea fans although in my case I have to confess to having a Chelsea season-ticket holder as a son (Kerry Dixon, why did you ever leave us,you have a lot to answer for)who tells me that the natives this season and last have been far from happy with the football that they see week-in,week-out.
Liverpool have even beaten them every time over the past 2 seasons FFS with or without Fernando.

As everybody knows Barcelona pass and pass and pass and the stats from the other night were something like (second hand info)Xavi 120,Iniesta 80,Messi 85 for completed passes.
Chelsea's highest was Mereiles with 18 and the next highest.......not England regulars like Lampard and Cole or Juan Mata the creative midfielder.....it was Cech with 17.
Not wishing to points score on this but that is amazing in a game of football over approx.95 minutes.

No one disputes that Barcelona dominated the game.

It is amazing and not many teams can play against it and end up being rolled over by them. Real beat them the other night, yes, but they know them - they play them 2/3 times every season. Chelsea had 2 games to stop Barca playing and that is exactly what they did.

You will see a different Chelsea in the final, Bayern are good but no where near as good as Barca

That's the thing though, Chelsea didn't stop Barca from playing. They didn't stop them from creating chances. They just had a large slice of luck and an on form keeper.

At Wembley last year VDS could have saved one and Villas could have hit the post and we'd be in extra time. But the fact them shots went in meant United got rapped but because Chelsea didn't lose they defended well.

Well ok, they didn't stop them passing it 800 times, but they did stop them from winning the game......if they hadn't defended like they did, then it would have been a walkover for Barca.

Don't believe in luck, Messi missed the penalty cos it was crap, not cos Chelsea were lucky.

Not that it is likely to happen but what nonsense.
If a player had say broken his leg in the semi I could understand the rationale but a player banned from the game being allowed to lift a trophy awarded for the winner of that one game seems crazy to me.

Did Roy Keane have the same in '99?

Seems further pandering to the big name, celebrity culture both at Chelsea and the wider world of football.

LOL here he ^^ goes again*

The winner of the competition done so by getting through the group stages as well as the knock out games - something Terry was captain for. Its not a "one off game"

I have no problem for him being recognised for his part in the competition, but IMHO the trophy should always be presented to the captain on the field.
