Royal With Cheese
No Fixed Abode How many Champions league goals has Doyle scored?

I think even my mum could have scored that one last night.

Your mom could have taken a close first touch and run half the length of a pitch...rounded world class goalie and slipped it into the open net in a champions league semi final against the best team in the world?

Why do people post stuff like this :|

After all the shit he has copped, and the whole world thinking he would stuff it up, he did look remarkably calm, and took it very well.

Watch him go and score for fun now.

It was one of those surreal moments when it appeared to be the Torres of 2/3 years ago had suddenly reappeared.

Watch him miss a sitter at the weekend now

Friday's Legacy
Bring Back The SB
Arnie_Pie Contact has already been made with Volves regarding his availability.

Of course it has!

We have been in touch with Wolves, that much is true. The assumption at first was it was about Fletcher's availability, and it may well have been; but McDermott maintains a close relationship with Doyle and has admitted as much in recent weeks. So don't be too dismissive of this one. It's up there as plausible.

Also worth noting that Nigel Howe is a very good friend of Jez Moxey.

As is Hammond although that may be through Howe but theyre bffs

Thought about this one and decided that I would be happy if he came back. After all, he would be a better option that Church at present. If anyone can get him playing well again it will be McDermott.

I don't want him.

If he comes we'll probably play well at the beginning of the season and have a good spell. Doyle will contribute with lots of keen running and nearly as many goals as he should get - people will say what a great player he is again.

Then when things get harder, he will completely disappear and make no contribution at all, just as he has done in about four of the last five seasons.

He is rubbish when things are difficult.

righhhhtt, lots of keen running and disappearing with no contribution at all- so no contradiction there??! The one thing i would say re Doyle is that he never 'dissapears' rather his injury prone record would perhaps be the only main issue to put me off coming back in for him.

When times are hard, he hides. He runs down the wing rather than playing through the middle.

Our whole team played shit football in the second half of that season, and in the latter period of the following season in the Championship. Doyle received an unfair amount of stick for what was a collective failure. He's still miles better than any of the attacking options we currently have, and we'd have to be stupid not to take the opportunity to bring him back if it arises.

I love Kevin doyle, good work rate and great attitude. He'll always be a Reading legend. People are talking some nonsense over his ability though, he's a good prem player. However, the problem with him is he has a history of long periods without scoring....and at crucial times and this is what really is concerning, in in his good seasons he would go what 6/7 games without a goal at least, or 1 in 10,etc You can't really afford that in the prem and it was also why we failed to go up in the first season back down here. Doyle would be great as a second striker to someone who can score 15-20 goals a season in the prem as he'll most likely chip in with 10 or so, thats a good return. however banking on him as your main scorer is not going to work.

Agree with a lot of that Finerain, although most forwards go on long'ish barren runs at times and I don't think Doyle is too out of the ordinary for that. He was part of the team that failed in the second half of Coppells last season yes, and he didn't score enough, but I'm not sure that's something to hold against him.

His barren spell at Wolves probably has more to do with how they play and where and when he's been used. I don't think it's a real trend.

I'd love him back. My only reservation is how the last 6 or 7 years have taken their toll on him. At Reading he was flogged like a dieing horse and obviously played at times when he probably shouldn't because the squad wasn't deep enough. Like a boxer who goes through too many 12 round battles, he may well have run his legs out to a certain extent.

I know what you are saying Hoop, and I agree with Fine Rain's assessment but I think he is as strong as an ox and his legs are still fine for a couple of years at least. I think he would make a great strike partnership with Roberts next year. Work ethic galore, bags of skill and pace with also the benefit of top flight experience.

I agree, I'd love him to come back. Don't get me wrong, I'm just saying that I can see a cause for concern IF things have taken their toll on him and that's why he's now not at his best.

I think he needs a change and a fresh start. I'd be more than happy if that was with us.

:?

Doyle has always done this, he works the channels to draw the opposition out allowing the centre forward to have the space.....Fletcher is their main striker, Doyle is the "worker"

Is Roberts still going to be our key man next year?

Which would work better, Roberts-Doyle or Roberts-Fletcher?

Roberts-Doyle in my opinion, but I do think Fletcher is a better player than Doyle. He is truly magnificent in the air and a clever player...I personally think we should buy Fletcher if possible he suits our style well, would eat up Harte's set pieces and Kebe/McAnuff crosses.

Agreed about the last few years taking their toll on him but for a different reason. Got to wonder what another relegation could have done to him mentally.
