It was generally accepted that Podolski was ready for a new challenge, German Journo Raphael Honigstein reported this months ago (if your on twitter I would recommend following him) and if you don't already suscribe to the Football Weekly podcast from the Guardian (best football podcast out there)

cmonurz Makes you wonder where scouts for certain teams are burying their heads. Does Podolski only have a year left on his deal at FC Koln? £10m for Podolski, vs £20m for Downing, and Liverpool still need wingers.

10M is huge money in Germany though. Only Bayern generally pay any more than that and they've already had a couple of years of Podolski. And despite his popularity, it didn't go very well. Deals can still be done here - Madrid only paid 13M (or something similar - 15M Euro) for Özil and Bremen were under no pressure at all to sell.

But the Ozil and Khedira values were ridiculously low, Bremen sold Diego the year before for over £20m.

Diego is not German, however.

Özil & Khedira type transfers are much more the rule than the exception. Podolski is now another example. When Bayern don't want a German player (and Bayern will pay big money for German players - Gomez being the best example), he generally stays where he is, or he goes abroad at a decent price. And only a really exceptional player (like Götze) will see silly prices being paid.

Ah ok I see what you mean, looking through recent German moves like Marin, Reus, Mertesacker, Boateng and they all seem to be between 10m and 20m Euros.

You mention Götze, what's the consensus in Germany as to where he will end up come August? Would love to see him come to England, but given Dortmund have won the league this season will he be happy to stay? Or will Bayern come in and pay the big money you were talking about?

soggy biscuit Lukas Podolski joins Arsenal for £10m

Cracking signing.

Only 26 too....

RVPs replacement or partner - thats the next question

Was talking about this with my Arsenal supporting mate. Would be devastating for Arsenal is RVP was to leave.

My mate seems to be under the impression that RVP wants a legacy, over a massive paycheck. Time will tell, but Money talks.

Also heard a few times recently from former players turned pundit types who say RVP is not into money. All he wants is trophies.

Can see him in a City shirt for some reason

Craig Gordon looked really good for a while after he signed for Sunderland first. Wasn't he very unlucky with injuries? I seem to have the recollection of reading about him being injured again and again.

Oh, and +1 to Keane's general transfer incompetence.
