MmmMonsterMunch The only world class players we have are Rooney ( ), Cole () & potentially Hart (). That's it.

World class, my arse.

Rooney - I'll give you that one on the basis he is usually a moron for England.

If you actually READ my post I said potentially Hart - lets face it he will keep that shirt for 10 years barring injuries or a serious loss of a form.

As for Cole well that's where you lose any credibility. Phenomenal player.

Very good player,

But not world class.

(Incidentally, not particularly clever to say "potentially world class". Could apply to half the players in the Premier League.)

Look I'm clutching at straws here!

I do think Hart could well become world class. Mancini trusts him. No other English GK comes close.

Ashley Cole however is a world class player. Every time he played against Ronaldo in the WC he had him in his pocket. Becks gets all the credit for England over say the last 5-10 years but Cole is the unsung hero IMO.

Certainly been our best player for last 5 years at least. We can agree on that. Anyway, my bedtime. Have a good one.

Shame Hodgson won't be given much of a chance by the press...before England even kick a ball!

The press may be smarting a bit as they have ended up with egg on their face with their predictions for their pal Arry. But, the press are fickle, a decent showing in his first game and they will be right behind him......until he loses a game or doesn't beat a lowly ranked team 20 - 0

The press are generally idiots, happy to throw their pennies worth in when they have never played the game professionally. Unless they have played the game, I don;t take much notice of them.

I hope Roy shows the press up for the know-nuffink twats that they are.

Can't help thinking that the FA know there is more to come in the 'Arry Skeletons Mystery.

I'm pretty sure the press have more ammunition that they would have used if England failed under 'Arry.
If that's true, no wonder the FA have gone for a safer pair of hands.

Anyonwe know of any skeletons in Hodgson's locker ?

I do find it very strange Redknapp hasn't even been interviewed.

The only reason I can fathom for this is that the FA approach Spurs to request an interview, and Levy turned around and said "unless you're happy to pay the £10m to get him out of his contract don't bother"

If they haven't even approached Spurs then that is pretty indefensible in my book. I'm not saying he is the messiah, but he should at least have had the chance to discuss his vision with the FA.

Because they didn't want to pay compensation to Spurs or risk any of the myriad of other skeletons in Harry's walk-in, Sandbanks closet coming out to bite them.

How do you know? Because 'Arry said? Because the FA have said Hodgson is the only man they're talking to?

I wouldn't trust the former and the latter doesn't preclude other discussions having taken place at some point.

Seal, I agree it seems a little odd that the FA haven't interviewed anyone else. The last couple of times around they spoke to at least other candidates didn't they? I know O'Neil certainly had an interview before one of the appointments. I can't figure out why they haven't followed a more normal process this time (hence why I thought on Sunday night that they'd soon be widening the net and Hodgson wasn't the only man they'd talk to).

I love how the press are constantly saying that 'Arry was the people's choice, only because you told us he was the only choice you mugs!

They probably did, but given the fact that their interview list becomes public property as soon as they ask someone to attend, they probably didn't formally interveiw them

Anyway, who cares, the vast majority of people are behind Hodgson - the ones in the press buying a new set of knives

This time around you mean (the interveiws?), or previously?

I'm sure previously they had full on formal interviews for one of the appointments, but yes, you might be right that the disruption that could cause for those managers (and their clubs) that don't get the job might be what puts them off.

Not sure I agree that everyone is beind Hodgson either. I've seen plenty of comments about him being rubbish and not up to it. His spell at Liverpool is certainly working against him amongst the masses who haven't actaully looked at his record and just remember Liverpool and his exit at Blackburn.

I just hope that the press/Sky get on board and start selling the strengths of his CV otherwise I fear he's doomed to failure.

I think that the FA may have invited 'Arry by text message; unfortunately as he explained in court he can't use a mobile phone...

Which reputable media company has an exclusive deal (and presumably lucrative) deal with "our" 'Arry

I hope he's declared it to the taxman and that he knows which account the money is being paid to...

It is probably another thing that counted against his appointment as it would stop the FA granting access rights to their employee to the highest bidder

Negative briefing continues, BBC says Hodgson will be the first English England manager never to have played professional football. Presumably Sven is the only other England manager not to have played professionally? Or did he play in some lower leagues?

Born in Sunne and raised in Torsby, in Värmland, Eriksson had an unremarkable playing career playing as a right-back in the lower divisions of Swedish football.[2] The highest level he played at was Division 2 with Karlskoga, where he met Tord Grip, before being forced into an early retirement owing to a knee injury in 1975 aged 27

cmonurz Ah ok. Just wondered why the BBC stipulated 'English England manager' - which other England manager never played professionally?

Unless Sven's team were only semi-pro

Oh well another Mike Bassett "FA grey man", still it's only representative of the quality of English players!

This 'we're doomed as our players aren't good enough' is a bit of a daft line IMO.

We don't have (Rooney apart) the real craft and guile available to some countries, but we do have some very good players who if they can be gelled into a proper team can beat anyone with the run of the ball on our side.
