Pepe the Horseman Barnsley fans say he's a poor man's Brian Howard

Lolz.

Most them think he will be a good prem player in the future

Don't forget that Howard was worshipped as some kind of demi-god during his time there

Barnsley have offered Butterfield a five fold increase in salary in a bid to keep him but he has not responded and is expected to leave Oakwell. However, the club are quoted in the Star today as saying;

“We’ve had no offers at this stage for Jacob, but we’ve offered him a deal and it’s up to him to decide what he wants to do,” added [club director] Rowing.

So, despite the speculation we have yet to make a bid for him..

Swap deal?

They're both free transfers. There's no deal to make with Barnsley.

While we have no stake in Howard, Butterfield is only 21 and Barnsley have offered him an improved contract. If we can't agree a deal it goes to a tribunal.

Jacob Butterfield is set to seal a move to Premier League new boys Reading in the next few days, thus turning down the new contract he has been offered at Oakwell.

The 21 year old who has been sidelined with a cruciate knee injury since New Years Eve is out of contract this summer and despite a new offer being on the table, the Academy graduate who has made 89 appearances for The Reds, is set to reject it and move to Championship champions Reading who are set to pay a tribunal fee.

Barnsley value Butterfield at around the £2m mark but it is unlikely they will get that fee.

Seems all Barnsley forums are running it now as well. Sounds positive.

Barnsley will probably get something like 800k in compensation. My only concern is the serious injury and not having played since, but as always in Brian we trust..

Quality player, as FL says hopefully the injury won't be a problem, but given the intensive medical procedure we employ if we do sign him then we can assume he'll be okay.

Fingers crossed, exactly the kind of midfield player we've been needing for a while.

Already West Ham fans saying it's a joke signing for a joke club. It seems unless you spend a stupid amount of money they can't be any good... When will they learn?

Newcastle are sniffing around too and are prepared to pay his medical costs to obtain his signature. Will be an interesting few days.

They are just horrendous. Friday and Wednesday will be the first, second, and only times in my life that I hope Cardiff smash their opponents.

If only we showed some ambition and spent lots of money on signing like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savio_Nsereko

Then the footballing world will start taking us seriously...

Don't clubs pay medical costs anyway?

Wasn't it Brown (of Leeds) that injured him, too?

The article seems a bit vacant to be honest.

Would love us to get Leeds in the league cup and have Butters and Jem in central midfield against that thug

i love this part of the site, where everyone seems to have seen players like Butterfield play week in week out, and claim he's a quality player. He's been on tv once this season, and the rest are from watching goals on the football league show, so how the F do you know he's a quality player :?:

Floyd's Mrs is a Barnsley season ticket holder, and she says he's a pile of steaming horse shit and doesnt know what the fuss is about.
